They say your friends are the family you choose — and we couldn’t agree more. Of course, catching up with them is nearly impossible, owing to our busy schedules. But with Friendship Day around the corner, there couldn’t be a better excuse to hang out. And what could be better than having a movie marathon featuring timeless classics?

So, draft that WhatsApp group message, and get your televisions and home theatre systems up and running, because we have a list of five friendship special movies you should catch up on over the weekend.
Moxie (2021)
When a shy, introverted Vivian (Hadley Robinson) stumbles upon her mother’s rebellious past, she’s inspired to call out casual sexism at her high school with an anonymous magazine. Christened ‘Moxie‘, the underground publication brings together girls across all cliches and clubs to join her movement. The movie, directed by Amy Poehler, celebrates female friendships and leaves you with a sense of feel-good long after the credits roll.
Dil Chahta Hai (2001)
Three friends, divided by their differences over relationships, are shown leading parallel lives and finding themselves at crossroads again. Starring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaye Khanna, Dil Chahta Hai is truly a nostalgic favourite to have on your list for Friendship’s Day. And let’s not forget that it is a film that inspired a number of (read: failed!) Goa trips across generations.
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Arjun (Hrithik Roshan), Kabir (Abhay Deol) and Imran (Farhan Akhtar) set off on an adventurous bachelor’s road trip across Spain. However, the vacation allows them to mend broken bonds, find love, and shed perspectives on their personal and social lives. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara takes you on an emotional roller-coaster against the scenic backdrop of the Spanish countryside, and there’s nothing quite like enjoying a virtual road trip with your friends!
Bend it like Beckham (2002)
Directed by Gurinder Chadha, Bend it like Beckham is a sports-drama film featuring Parmindar Nagra and Keira Knightly, who aim to pursue their careers as professional soccer players. After being discovered by Knightly, Nagra finds herself in a semi-pro team and has to hide her matches from her traditional Indian family. The movie tactfully deals with multiple subjects, including interracial relationships, friendship, and cultures, making it a delightful watch with the company of friends.
Pitch Perfect (2012)
Life changes for Becca (Anna Kendrick), after she is forced to join an all-girls acapella group at her new college. But after the group qualifies for a university competition, the group of girls must resolve their differences in order to compete with a rival all-boys acapella group. Apart from having multiple musical breaks, the flick offers a fresh take on college friendships and battles stereotypes by promoting unity. We bet you and your friends will be singing the acapella versions of your favourite songs by the end of it!
