Of all the movies and TV series to watch out for in 2024, gaming fans likely have their eyes set on one show before all else – Fallout. Based on the popular survival role-playing video game series of the same name, Fallout is set to release its first web-series next year.
However, fans of the series spanning four main games and a number of spin-offs won’t be too happy to know that the show doesn’t drop until April 12, 2024. Worry not though, if you’re a veteran gamer or someone who picked up their first controller up during the pandemic, we have a curated list of the best shows and movies based on some of the most popular video-games.

These include content across multiple genres, so there is something in here for everyone. Most of the shows and movies mentioned below are also available on popular streaming apps, allowing you to watch them on your smartphones, laptops or even smart TVs. Let’s begin with the shows!
The Last of Us
If there’s one video game franchise that nailed its games and adaptations equally, it has to be The Last of Us. Featuring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey in the iconic roles of Joel and Ellie, the show spanning one season that released earlier this year resonated well with both gamers and non-gamers for its performance and direction. No wonder a second season is on the way.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners
While Cyberpunk 2077 may have launched to mixed receptions three years ago, its spin-off, animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was easier to love. Putting viewers in the shoes of street kid David Martinez, Edgerunners is a beautifully animated show that takes everything good about the game and dials it up a notch.
Castlevania
Even if you’ve never played any of the Vampire-hunting Castlevania games, the animated web series of the same name is a masterpiece that is a must-watch for Dracula fans. Featuring a unique take on the iconic vampire lord, the show follows the journey of Trevor Belmont, Sypha Belnades and Dracula’s own son Alucard as they take on the seemingly unbeatable foe.
Halo
With a gripping plot, an extra-terrestrial setting, and one of the most iconic video game protagonists of all time, Halo was already a staple among shooting game fans. However, the show of the same name helped bring the franchise and Master Chief’s adventures to non-gaming audiences. Taking place in the same universe, Halo (the show) takes the audience through a chapter of conflict between the humans and the all-conquering alien race known as the covenant.
Twisted Metal
If Death Race-esque vehicular action is your thing, chances are you have already heard of the Twisted Metal games. Popular on both the Sony PlayStations and Windows, Twisted Metal’s main attraction was its demolition-filled vehicle fights, and that is exactly what the show (of the same name) also brings us. Starring Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz, Twisted Metal is a must watch for action-comedy fans.
Movies
Don’t have the time to commit to entire seasons of entertainment? We get it. That’s why we’ve also put together a list of movies based on popular video games that you can watch. While not all of these are great movies, they do come with a fun-to-watch factor that you will love.

Action – Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia, Uncharted, Mortal Kombat, Hitman
Racing – Gran Turismo, Need for Speed
Animated – The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Horror – Resident Evil series, Five Nights at Freddy’s
Those are some of the best shows and movies to watch while you wait for Fallout, the first season of which releases on April 12, 2024. That should give you plenty of time to watch most of these, if not all.
