iPhone 16 to AirPods Gen 4: Everything Apple announced at the ‘It’s Glowtime’ launch event

After what feels like ages of waiting, we finally were able to witness Apple’s Glowtime launch event earlier today. With the event now concluded, there’s so much to wrap your head around, from multiple new iPhones and AirPods, to the Apple Watch Series 10.

To quickly recap all the new announcements from the event, here are all the announcements from the Glowtime launch event, from hardware to software.

iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

The new Apple iPhone 16 comes in many new colours – ultramarine, teal and pink, along with white and black. No fancy names this time. While the display sizes remain the same – 6.1-inch on iPhone 16 and 6.7-inch on iPhone 16 Plus – the brightness levels now go from 1 nit to 2,000 nits.

Both phones now get the Action Button, as well as Camera Control – a new capacitive button below the Power button that acts as a dedicated camera shutter button, but also does much more, like acting as a zoom slider or control other elements like depth.

The iPhone 16 is now powered by a new 3nm A18 chip with a 16-core neural engine, built specifically for Apple Intelligence features. The chip also has a 6-core CPU and 5-core GPU, offering performance improvements over the iPhone 15. The chip will also support the AAA games that were previously exclusive only to the Pro iPhones.

The new Camera Control also introduces Visual Intelligence, letting you use the camera in tandem with Apple Intelligence to pull up relevant information, similar to how OpenAI’s GPT 4o model works. Visual Intelligence will be rolled out later this year. Coming to sensors, however, the phones feature a 48MP main and a 12MP ultrawide camera.

The iPhone 16 is priced at Rs 79,900, while the iPhone 16 Plus is priced at Rs 89,900.

iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max come in new sizes, with the iPhone 16 Pro now featuring a 6.3-inch display, and the Pro Max featuring a 6.9-inch display (the biggest iPhone display till date).

The phones are available in Black Titanium, White Titanium and Natural Titanium, in addition to a new Desert Titanium. Apple also mentions that the phones will offer “better battery life”.

The new phones come with a new 3nm A18 Pro chip, with improved performance over last year’s A17 Pro chipset. The chip can offer up to 20 per cent better GPU performance over the A17 Pro, while the CPU is 15 per cent faster.

The iPhone 16 Pro also comes with a 48MP main camera along with a 48MP ultrawide camera. The iPhone 16 Pro models now feature a 12MP 5x telephoto camera too. The cameras now support 4K 120fps recording for a new Cinematic Slo-Mo video, which joins several other smaller video features.

The iPhone 16 Pro is priced at Rs 1,19,900, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max comes in starting at Rs 1,44,900.

Apple Watch Series 10, and a new Apple Watch Ultra 2

Apple also announced the new Apple Watch Series 10. The new smartwatch comes with the biggest display and thinnest design on an Apple Watch yet. The watch now boasts 30 per cent more area than the Apple Watch Series 6, and even slightly beats the Apple Watch Ultra 2.

The watch comes in a super glossy Jet Black colour, first seen back in the Apple iPhone 7 series. For those who don’t want the plain black though, there is also a Rose Gold and a Silver Aluminium colour. A new Polished Titanium watch also joins the party.

Several new engineering innovations have allowed Apple to redesign the Apple Watch from the ground up, offering a slimmer 9.7mm body that’s also lighter. The Apple Watch series 10 also charges faster than any other Apple Watch. The new wearable can charge up to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes.

The watch now also supports Sleep Apnea detection, which will also come to the Series 9 and Watch Ultra 2.

Under the hood is a new S10 chip, made in-house by Apple. The chip makes workout detection, dictation, and gesture support work better. Powering the wearable is watchOS 11, which brings additions like automatic widgets, and the Translate app, now able to run directly on the Apple Watch.

The Apple Watch Series 10 prices start from Rs 46,900.

Apple also released the Apple Watch Ultra 2 in a new Black Titanium finish that brings a new sleeker black design and more durable design to the wearable, particularly handy for adventure sports enthusiasts.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is priced at Rs 89,900.

AirPods Gen 4, and more

Apple announced the new AirPods Gen 4 at the event too. The new earbuds succeed the AirPods Gen 3, and are now powered by the H2 chip, which powers the AirPods Pro Gen 2. They still feature the open-ear design, so while you don’t get Active Noise Cancellation, you do get Personalised Spatial Audio.

Head nodding gestures are supported, allowing you to nod to take a call or shake your head to decline it. The earbuds also get pinch sensors on the side for music playback control. The AirPods Gen 4 case also comes with a USB Type-C charging port.

Apple also announced a second pair of AirPods Gen 4, which bring Active Noise Cancellation to the open-ear design. This version of the earbuds also borrows more features from the AirPods Pro Gen 2, like wireless charging support, a built-in speaker and Conversational Awareness.

The company also took the opportunity to launch Hearing Protection for AirPods Pro, which uses sensors and algorithms to reduce instances of loud volume around you in real-time to prevent hearing loss.

AirPods Pro users will also now be able to take a Hearing Test on their iPhone to determine the level of hearing loss they already have, if any. The AirPods Pro Gen 2, can then be used like a hearing aid, used to boost the exact frequencies you have trouble hearing.
