When the K-pop band BTS announced a hiatus in June 2022, they had decided to pursue solo projects and complete their mandatory military service. It was said that they will make a comeback in 2025.
While we still wait for that comeback, BTS member Jin, who completed his mandatory 18-month military service in June, has partnered with Dolby for his new album, Happy.
What is Dolby Atmos?
Dolby Laboratories introduced a surround sound technology using spatial audio called Dolby Atmos in 2012. This technology creates a three-dimensional sound experience that allows artists and engineers to position sounds in space.
This technology expands on existing surround sound systems by creating a sense of height which is different from traditional format that limits audio to a certain number of channels. Dolby Atmos allows up to 118 audio objects to be placed anywhere in 3D space. For example, a helicopter hovering overhead or a race car just roaring past you.

Dolby Atmos creates a more realistic and immersive audio experience that draws you in and keeps you engaged. It is widely used for movies, gaming, music, and more.
Dolby Atmos x Jin partnership
For K-drama and K-music fans, the new album by Jin will be released globally on November 15. As a pre-release, the Dolby Atmos and Jin team have released a single, I’ll Be There, which is now available across the globe.
For those unaware, Jin is a South Korean singer, songwriter and member of 21st century pop icons, BTS. His solo records include Awake, Epiphany and Moon, and Super Tuna.
In 2022, he wrote lyrics for his first single solo The Astronaut alongside Coldplay. On July 14, 2024, Jin participated in the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Relay as a torchbearer from South Korea.
This collaboration between Dolby Atmos and Jin aims to introduce consumers to a richer and deeper sound thanks to technology created by Dolby. Since Dolby can provide clarity and depth, it is said to add layers to audio.
At present, only a few platforms provide Dolby Atmos sound in streaming apps like Apple Music, TIDAL, QQ Music, Melon, and more. It is used in a variety of applications such as home theaters, headphones, and more recently, even smartphones and laptops.
