Mobile network connectivity has improved considerably in recent years to the point where you can get a stable connection for calls even in remote areas, letting you stay in touch with ease. However, depending on where you are and what the circumstances are, you might still be facing the age-old problem of call drops. Indeed, it can be quite annoying to be in the middle of a call and it suddenly goes blank, indicating that the other person can’t hear you or vice versa.
If you’re an Android phone user, you’re probably used to seeing your smartphone drop calls once in a while. In some cases, there’s probably an easy fix for this. Read on to find out what you can do to prevent dropped calls on your smartphone.
Useful fixes for dropped calls on Android smartphones
SIM card not properly inserted or damaged
A misaligned SIM card may be the cause of your call drops or network issues. This has a simple fix, of course; just open up the SIM tray, give your SIM card a wipe with a soft, dry cloth, and place it back in carefully and properly. If your SIM card is damaged, you may need to get in touch with your mobile network operator for a replacement.

Network congestion
Sometimes, network congestion may be the cause of dropped calls. This can happen when there are a lot of people using their smartphones in the same place (crowded spaces such as malls or concert venues), or even at busy times when a lot of people are placing calls at the same time (such as on occasions such as New Year’s Day). To solve this, you can head to a less crowded area, or wait for some time before trying again.
Weak signal
In some areas, you might have a weak signal which either does not allow calls to connect or causes dropped calls. This can be indoors or even in some remote areas. Head to an open space or near a window to solve this issue.
Location and obstacles
Network issues are typically a lot more in remote areas, due to the scarcity of mobile towers or even natural obstacles such as hills and mountains blocking the signal. Additionally, even in urban areas, those residing on lower floors in high-rise buildings may face connectivity issues due to the Android smartphone not being able to connect to a nearby mobile tower due to obstacles.
This can cause call drops, and the solution to this is usually to just reach an area where you get a stronger cellular signal.
Software and hardware issues
At times, outdated firmware on your Android smartphone may prevent you from properly connecting to a mobile network. Additionally, damage to the device (such as when you drop your smartphone from a short height) could cause equipment such as the antenna to malfunction, even if the rest of the device seems to be intact. In the former case, a software update may fix the issue, while in the latter case, you may need to get your smartphone repaired.
