Cleaning is a chore very few enjoy. And for good reason too. No one likes to spend hours sweating in the heat, sweeping, and mopping their floor, only to end up with sore arms later.
Life has definitely become way easier with the invention of vacuum cleaners though. However, as with any other appliance, buying a vacuum cleaner also requires careful consideration. So we thought, we’d put together this little list of the different kinds of vacuum cleaners one can consider purchasing, such that they can make the ideal choice depending on their requirements.
Different types of vacuum cleaners
There are five different types of vacuum cleaners, as mentioned below.
1. Upright vacuum cleaners
2. Stick vacuum cleaners
3. Canister vacuum cleaners
4. Handheld vacuum cleaners
5. Robotic vacuum cleaners
1. Upright vacuum cleaners
One of the earliest, most widely used, and most popular types of vacuum cleaners, are upright cleaners. They have a simple ergonomic design with a tilt and push mechanism. The brush is powered by a motor and removes dirt by pulling it up. Upright vacuum cleaners work best on carpeted surfaces. They contain a sensor that efficiently detects and helps remove particles from carpet fibres.
2. Robotic vacuum cleaners
These are robotic vacuum cleaners powered by sensors. With these, the functioning is as simple as turning them on and off.
They can find their own way around the house, cleaning up wherever required, on settings they can determine on their own. These work on wood, tile, carpeted surfaces, and even corners.
3. Stick vacuum cleaners
A stick vacuum cleaner is lightweight, thin, and easy to clean as well. These vacuum cleaners feature a straightforward design that makes them simple to store. What’s fun is, that they actually resemble brooms.
The motor is integrated into the stick and performs the function of suction. This kind of vacuum cleaners is useful for navigating tight areas and furnishings. They can also be used to clean hardwood floors and small carpeted spaces.
4. Canister vacuum cleaners
Canister vacuum cleaners have a dust-gathering receptacle that is motor-powered. They can clean a variety of surfaces, including carpeted areas, hard floors, wooden floors, tiles, vehicles, stairwells, walls, ceilings, and corners, as well as upholstery, including furniture, curtains, and other items.
5. Handheld vacuum cleaners
Handheld vacuum cleaners have a compact form factor and are lightweight. They fit comfortably in one hand and therefore can be used both, at home as well as on the go. These vacuum cleaners come in a variety of designs- some have cords and others don’t. Some have a spinning brush, whereas others don’t.
They are generally used to clean confined spaces that are too small or too difficult to access, such as the interiors of cars, tables, stairs, and corners.
