5 common audio system problems and how to fix them

If your audio system is not sounding like it was when it was fresh out of the box, you’re not alone. Just like any other gadget, after using it for a long time, your speakers’ performance levels do tend to fall. Sometimes, they could even face a few issues. Let’s explore five common audio system problems and how to fix them.

Audio system problems and their solutions

1. Distortion or crackling: One of the most common audio system problems is the issue of crackling and distortion in your sound output. Most of the time, this happens due to loose wire connections and/or damaged wires. The best way to tackle this problem is by checking all the connections and making sure that any of the wires are not damaged. You may have to replace any faulty wiring if necessary.

2. Constant humming or buzzing: Another common issue is a constant hum, static or buzzing noise you might notice while playing audio. This annoying sound may also continue to play when your movie or music is paused. This could be due to faulty wiring or interference. The latter is when you have multiple devices in the vicinity. Try moving the devices around to avoid any overlapping signals, and also make sure that your primary device is properly grounded.

3. The system isn’t powering up: Another rather common issue is the system not powering up, and it is relatively easier to solve. Firstly, make sure that you have plugged in your audio system properly. Now, check whether the power outlet is working or not. If this doesn’t solve your problem, then check for a loose wire or any connector damage. Switching it on and off a couple of times also helps in some cases.

4. Remote not working: A problematic remote control is unfortunately, one of the annoying situations you may run into, and your audio system is no exception. To fix any remote control problems, begin by making sure the batteries are placed properly and aren’t out of their designated place.

As a second step, you can try to point at the audio system a little better and make sure that there are no obstacles in the line of sight between the audio system and the remote. If there’s still an issue, you may need a professional to take a look into the matter.

5. No sound or low sound: No sound or a lower than usual sound output is yet another common issue faced by many. It can become irritating and ruin your audio experience if not resolved soon. To fix this, check whether the speakers are plugged in properly and the wires aren’t damaged or loosely connected. Make sure all the speakers in your setup are up and running.

Next, you need to make sure that the volume level is up on both your source device and the audio system. Also, make it a point to check the audio settings and ensure that the appropriate input is selected. If you remember recently messing with the equaliser options, try to restore your settings and see if the problem is solved.
