ChatGPT Android app now available: 5 top features for ease-of-use

OpenAI’s popular language model ChatGPT is now available on Android smartphones via the official ChatGPT app. The app was previously only available to iOS devices, leaving Android users to use the AI chatbot from a browser. However, with the introduction of the dedicated Android app, Android users can now use the service more easily than ever.

The ChatGPT app is now live on the Google Play Store, where supported Android devices can grab the app from. In addition to all the capabilities ChatGPT already offers, the ChatGPT app also makes interaction with the language model easier than ever. Here are the five top features the ChatGPT app for Android brings.

Simple, easy-to-use UI

The ChatGPT Android app brings a simplified UI with all the basic settings and options neatly tucked inside a hamburger menu on the left. This makes it easy for users to focus on the chats, while navigating through multiple chats and your history is also made easier.

Dark mode

For users who don’t like a lot of white light glaring at them from their phone screens, ChatGPT also features a dark mode that lets you turn most of the screen to grey shades, making the app easier on the eyes at night. You can choose between light and dark modes, or make the app follow your system settings for a more seamless experience.

Language control

The ChatGPT Android app also makes it easier for users to choose a main language. While the app is capable of understanding and answering prompts in multiple languages after a recent update, setting a default, main language will help make conversations more efficient if you often use ChatGPT in a particular non-English language.

Data control and export

A dedicated tab for Data controls in the app makes it easy to find all the options around your ChatGPT data in the Android app. In here, users can tap on a toggle to turn Chat History on or off, and even easily clear chat history or export their entire data.

Easy way to delete account

ChatGPT has made it easy to remove chats you no longer need, however, deleting your account has not been such a straightforward endeavour. The ChatGPT Android app, however, makes this step a little easier. With a directly available Delete Account option under Settings > Data Control, users can delete their entire ChatGPT account within seconds.

Coming Soon: Subscription tab

The ChatGPT Android app also features a dedicated subscription tab. While it isn’t live yet, the tab will soon allow users on the free plan to upgrade to ChatGPT Plus, which offers premium features like access to the GPT-4 model, priority access during high-demand phases and faster response times when using the current GPT-3.5 model.
