Amazon’s Alexa is arguably one of the most popular smart assistants in the market. While it may have lost its vanity in recent times, the assistant still serves well for a lot of daily actions and can be a great tool for users at home. When it comes to using Alexa, the Echo range of speakers offer great integration but they don’t often deliver a great audio experience. This often leaves Alexa users with the question: Can you hook up Alexa with other Bluetooth speakers?

The ability to connect Alexa to other speakers is made possible by the Bluetooth connectivity supported by Alexa-enabled speakers like Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Show. This allows Alexa users to wirelessly pair their Echo speakers or any Alexa-enabled audio device with external speakers for a richer and more immersive audio experience. Once Alexa is connected to a Bluetooth speaker, you will get the following benefits:

  1. Better music playback.
  2. Use Alexa as a Bluetooth speaker for your phone or tablet.
  3. Ability to pair multiple devices to switch between different audio outputs.

How to connect Alexa to Bluetooth speakers

Before we get to the steps to connect Alexa to a Bluetooth speaker, you need to ensure that your Bluetooth speaker is turned on and set to pairing mode. In the case of most Bluetooth speakers, you can enter the pairing mode by pressing and holding the power button or a dedicated Bluetooth button.

Your Bluetooth speaker will show a flashing light to confirm it is in pairing mode. It is also recommended that you keep your Alexa speaker and Bluetooth speaker less than 3 feet away from each other for connectivity. Once your Bluetooth speaker is connected, you will not hear any audio from your Alexa speaker. Lastly, ensure that your Bluetooth speaker is fully charged or connected to avoid any disconnection. Here’s how to connect Alexa to a Bluetooth speaker:

Step 1: Open the Alexa app on your iPhone or Android smartphone. If you don’t already have the app you can download it from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Step 2: Tap Devices in the bottom menu.

Step 3: Select the Alexa speaker you want to pair with your Bluetooth speaker.

Step 4: Scroll down to “Bluetooth Connections and tap “Pair a New Device.”

Step 5: Alexa will now scan for nearby Bluetooth devices.

Step 6: Now, select the Bluetooth speaker you want to connect to your Alexa speaker from the list.

Step 7: Alexa will confirm the connection by saying, “Connected to [Speaker Name].”
