For Apple users, the landmark iOS 18 update brought forth numerous design and functional changes to the iPhone. This week, the company also unveiled its iOS 18.1 update which introduced a couple of significant features missing from its pivotal OS update.
Among these updates, Apple also introduced the much-awaited call recording feature. Apart from simply recording calls, a user will now also be able to get a transcription of their recorded conversation. Here’s everything you need to know about it and how it works.
Call recording with iOS 18.1: What's there to know?
A call recording feature is useful for referring back to a conversation or conducting interviews. That said, no matter the usage, before you use it, ensure your iPhone has the latest iOS 18.1 update installed. Once that is done, these are a few steps you can follow:
Step 1: Go to the Phone app on your iPhone to make a call
Step 2: Once the call is in progress, you will be able to find a Call Recording icon on the top-left of your screen
Step 3: On tapping this, your call should begin recording on your iPhone

However, it is crucial to note that both parties will hear a notice stating the call is being recorded. Once through, users will be able to access this recording within the Call Recording folder on their Notes app.
How to view and transcribe your call recording on an iPhone
You might want to transcribe your recorded phone call for various reasons, and iOS 18.1 makes it possible with another set of simple steps. Here’s how:
Step 1: Visit the Notes app on your iPhone
Step 2: Select the Note in the Call Recordings folder and tap on the Transcript button
Step 3: Spoken words will automatically be transcribed within the app itself

However, take note that your iPhone may not identify a transcript in either of the two scenarios mentioned below:
– The audio quality is unclear
– Your iPhone does not support the spoken language
Once you have transcribed your call, you will be able to see the conversation in the Notes app, and every speaker identified will be highlighted by your device. When you view your transcript, you can either play audio from a specific point or select the text you wish to hear. Apart from that, you also have the option of searching within the transcript by tapping the More and Find buttons in the app.
Lastly, you can delete your transcript once you’re through with it by tapping the More and then Delete options. However, keep in mind that deleting an audio will automatically delete your transcript.
