Promotional calls and messages that constantly bug you can not only be annoying but also a complete waste of time. After all, why would you want to get that credit card, which you’ve already refused 10 times? But don’t fret, there’s a rather easy way to block these pesky interruptions, especially if you’re a Jio SIM card user.
Jio has introduced new spam blocking features that give users full control over what calls and SMSes they can receive. Let’s see what these features are all about and how you can use them.
MyJio app lets you block unwanted calls and messages
Jio, in accordance with TRAI’s latest measures, has introduced new spam blocking features. These features can be accessed in settings on the MyJio app.
There are three options in the MyJio app that allow you to block unsolicited calls and messages. The first option, called ‘Fully blocked’, lets you block all promotional and service calls, except OTP and transaction confirmation messages.
The second option named ‘Promotional communication blocked’ allows you to only block promotional calls and messages. You will still receive services and transactional calls and SMSes. This means there will be less spam your way.

If you want to take full control of what calls and messages come your way, you can try the third option that lets you customise your preferences. Let’s see how you can access and use these spam blocking features in the MyJio app.
Step 1: Open MyJio app on your Android smartphone or iPhone.
Step 2: Tap on the Do not disturb option from the Trending now section.
Step 3: Once you are in the Do not disturb tab, you should see all the spam blocking options, like Fully blocked, Promotional communication blocked, and Custom preferences. Choose the one you want as per your preference.
Step 4: Hit Save to save the changes.
That’s how you can easily block spam calls and SMSes on your Jio number. It’s worth noting that Jio isn’t the only telecom operator that has spam blocking features.
Recently, Airtel also introduced a new AI tool that flags spam calls and messages for its users. However, unlike Jio, Airtel users do not have to enable or disable a setting for this. Instead, Airtel automatically verifies all calls and SMSes for you and flags the promotional ones with the ‘Suspected Spam’ tag.

While Airtel’s feature doesn’t directly block promotional calls and messages, it can still cut down the amount of spam you receive on your device.
