Making sense of Xiaomi’s gaming phones

5 best Xiaomi smartphones for gaming in India

When it comes to gaming, the choice of SoC is the one that’s going to have the most impact on your experience. This is closely followed by the display and its touch sampling rate, and then thermal throttling.

The first is important to ensure that you’re getting a high and stable frame-rate regardless of what is happening on your screen. After all, you don’t want your phone to stop working just because you’re in a firefight, right? The display and touch sampling rate of course determine how quickly and accurately you can respond to what’s happening on screen, and thermal throttling determines how long you can play at full speed without stutter or lag.

These factors guided our recommendations for the best Xiaomi phones for gaming that you buy get in 2024.

1. Xiaomi 14 Civi

The camera is not all that there is to the budget flagship from Xiaomi. Available on Croma for Rs 42,999, the new Xiaomi 14 Civi packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 SoC — one of the most powerful mobile gaming platforms available today.

The eight-core processor is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage in the base variant, but it gets up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage in the top-of-the-line variant. You don’t need more RAM just for gaming. You can also opt for the 12GB model if you need more RAM for multitasking.

The display is really good for gaming as well, since it’s a 6.55-inch curved AMOLED display with a 120hz refresh rate. The touch sampling rate is 240H.. What we love is the fact that the display can hit 3,000nits at peak brightness, making it perfect for gaming on the go in the bright sun as well.

2. Xiaomi 14 5G

If you need something with even more power, you can go for the Xiaomi 14 5G. It features a slightly smaller 6.36-inch display, but it excels on the performance front, as it uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset paired with an ‘IceLoop Cooling System’ that keeps things performant.

Priced at Rs 58,999, it also has an array of 50MP cameras on the rear, along with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. It’s a great choice for a gamer who also wants a flagship smartphone and gaming experience.

3. Redmi Note 13 Pro+

On the mid-range side of things, we’d suggest you go for the Redmi Note 13 Pro+. Available for Rs 29,499, this phone boasts of a 120Hz AMOLED display. It also gets a powerful MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Ultra SoC with up to 12GB of RAM for a great gaming and multitasking experience.

The 6.67-inch display has a resolution of 2,712×1,220 pixels and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus. If you’re curious about optics, you’re also getting a 200MP primary and a 16MP selfie unit. Overall, a great all-rounder.

4. Redmi Note 13 5G

For half the price of the Pro+, you can get the base Redmi Note 13. At Rs 16,999. Despite the price cut, you don’t lose out on much. You’re still getting a 120Hz AMOLED display, albeit with a lower 1000 nits of brightness, and you’re getting the Dimensity 6080 instead of the Dimensity 7200 Ultra.

Both of these aren’t a significant step down for most games, though you will have to drop settings for more demanding titles like BGMI. That said, the Note 13 is available for a very competitive price and you can’t really ask for more features or performance in that price bracket.

5. Redmi 13C 5G

Priced at Rs 11,999 the Redmi 13C 5G is a great choice for a budget gaming phone. A MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ processor powers the device, and you can pair it with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The 4GB and 6GB options are cheaper, but might have a slight bit of trouble with heavier titles like BGMI.

The display is a 90Hz IPS LCD unit with up to 600 nits of brightness — common in this category — and has a resolution of 1600×720. The display size is 6.74inches.

We think this is a great budget gaming phone as it’s a large phone — which means that overheating is less of a problem — and since it gets a 5,000mAh battery and 5G support for all-day gaming. It even supports 18W PD charging.

Xiaomi makes some amazing phones for all users and at all price brackets. The devices have great features and performance, and our picks should help you zero in on the ones best suited for gaming at your budget. Be sure to peruse croma.com for more deals and updated pricing. Happy gaming!
