Traditional ACs used compressors that ran at fixed speeds. The compressor is what cools the refrigerant, and by extension the air in your room. To adjust the rate of cooling, these ACs would turn the compressor off and on at fixed intervals, creating bursts of cold air that would, over time, cool the room to the desired average temperature. Modern inverter ACs, on the other hand, use inverter technology to control the speed of the compressor in real-time.

This speed is determined by temperature sensors that are monitoring the room and allows for more fine-grained temperature control. An added advantage is that this process is more energy efficient, thus giving you a better cooling experience while keeping electricity bills in check. Time to take a look at some of the best inverter ACs available in India at the moment.

1. Croma 4-in-1 convertible 1-ton 3-star inverter split AC
This Croma 4-in-1 convertible AC is the latest 2024 model and features, among other things, an inverter system, PM2.5 filtration with an activated carbon and dust filter, and humidity control. The rotary compressor and inverter control help this AC earn a 3-star energy efficiency rating.
If you need a higher capacity, you can opt for the 1.5-ton version of the same AC – model no. CRLA018IND283258 – for just a little more money.
2. LG TW 4-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 3-star dual inverter window AC
The LG TW 4-in-1 convertible AC is a great option for a window AC. This 2024 model retails at Rs 35,490 and comes with a 3-star energy rating. Key features include a smart diagnosis system, a powerful and efficient dual rotary compressor, and a filter that can handle microbes. Additionally, it uses dual inverter technology for optimum control over compressor speed depending on whether you need powerful cooling or efficient operation.

You could also opt for its 5-star variant – the TW-Q18WUZA.ASLG, to cut down on the electricity bill. It’s a little more expensive at Rs 40,990, but comes with similar features and consumes less power when in operation.
3. DAIKIN Standard Plus series 1.5-ton 5-star inverter split AC
For maximum energy efficiency, we’d recommend the Daikin FTKM50U from Daikin. This model comes with a 1.5-ton capacity and 5-star rating that virtually guarantees significant energy cost savings in the long run. It features a 3D airflow system to ensure adequate air distribution, and several smart features for self-diagnosis and self-cleaning. It’s available in white for Rs 45,590.
For larger rooms, Daikin offers a 1.8-ton version for Rs 59,990.
4. Voltas Magnum 2-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 4-star inverter window AC
This window AC from Voltas has a coverage area of 170 sq ft and uses a rotary BLDC compressor with inverter control to earn a 4-star energy rating. Power consumption is a relatively low 1,698W and airflow is rated at 425 CFM. If you can increase your budget to Rs 35,490, we’d also recommend the Voltas 185V Vertis Elite Marvel. This one has a 5-star rating and a massive, 750 CFM airflow rating for turbo cooling. It’s more expensive, but it justifies its price tag.
5. Godrej 5-in-1 convertible 1.5-ton 3-star inverter split AC
At Rs 30,990, the Godrej 5-in-1 convertible AC is one of the cheapest 3-star inverter split ACs you can get. Don’t let the price fool you, though, as Godrej hasn’t scrimped on features. Energy efficiency is maintained thanks to inverter control and a rotary compressor, and filtration efficiency is achieved with a fine mesh filter and active carbon filters. Godrej also offers the SIC 24ITC3WWA, which you can opt for if you want a 2-ton AC for around Rs 40,000.
