5 best Funtouch OS 14 features to look out for

Based on Android 14, Vivo’s Funtouch OS 14 arrived on Vivo and iQOO devices in October last year. It’s a significant update in that it upgraded users to a newer version of Android while also getting advanced memory management features, smoother animations, enhanced multitasking features, and more. The updates started rolling out in October, and the last of the supported devices received the update in April.

If you haven’t yet upgraded, or just want to learn more about the latest update, here are the top five features of Funtouch OS 14. Oh, and if you’re looking for a list of supported devices, we’ve added them at the bottom of the article for easy reference.

5 best Funtouch OS 14 features

1. Better RAM usage

2. Enhanced multitasking

3. Smoother animations

4. More customisation

5. Advanced video editing

1. Better RAM usage

RAM or random access memory is required to help your phone run apps. The more RAM you have, the more apps you can leave running in the background. Given how big apps are becoming, running out of RAM is a very real possibility on modern smartphones. One method of addressing this issue is to dump the contents of RAM into your internal storage and retrieve it when needed.

While your internal storage is much slower than RAM, this process is still faster than deleting the app from RAM and reloading it when you need to use it. To this end, Funtouch OS 14 can now use up to 600 MB of your internal storage to dump RAM into to speed up multitasking.

This feature is only available on phones with 8 GB RAM or more. There’s also an App Retainer feature that ensures that your most commonly used apps are available on demand.

2. Enhanced multitasking

Building on the RAM management improvements, Funtouch OS 14 upgrades the multitasking experience with an upgraded small window feature with more prominent controls, a larger number of background windows, and side-swipe suspension. There’s also a mini window mode that lets you focus on a main app while leaving the information in a mini window that you can’t interact with by accident. Multitasking should now be a lot easier.

3. Smoother animations

While it’s nice to have a 90Hz or 120Hz display on our smartphones, the two downsides we must contend with are a hit to battery life and of course, cost. On the other hand, the animations on 60Hz displays are stuttery and not as smooth as we’d like. Funtouch OS 14 addresses this issue by simulation motion blur when opening or closing apps.

This blur smooths out the animation, reducing visual judder, and ensuring that the transitions and animations you see are much smoother than what you’d normally expect from a 60Hz display.

4. More customisation

New personalisation features in Funtouch OS 14 will help add some extra style to your phone. You can now customise the clock on the lock screen, for example, and choose between eight different font styles. There’s even a new, minimalist, Material You based monochrome font that lets you customise your UI to show a particular colour or even go grayscale to optimise power savings.

5. Advanced video editing

Another great feature is the inclusion of newer and more advanced video editing tools. These are available by default within Funtouch OS 14.

These tools now include a lossless export option, customisable video quality settings that support 4K60, improved thumbnails, and several more such features. And all of this is wrapped in an intuitive UI that anyone can get to grips with in no time at all!
