Belkin’s new self-adjusting iPhone stand is a creator’s new best friend

This MagSafe stand can hold your iPhone and adjust automatically to always face you

Belkin’s new self-adjusting iPhone stand is a creator’s new best friend

If you’re a creator, you need no lessons on how useful a device like a gimbal can be. However, despite all its anti-shake, stabilising capabilities, a gimbal still needs to be held by someone. For vlogs, this works fine, but anything that requires you to have both your hands on camera, also means you will need another person to hold the gimbal for you.

If you take the gimbal out of the equation and replace it with a tripod, you have to constantly worry about the framing of shots. So, how exactly do solo-creators tackle this issue? Belkin as the answer with its latest iPhone accessory at CES 2024 – the Belkin Auto-Tracking Stand Pro.

Belkin Auto-Tracking Stand Pro: What is it?

The Auto-Tracking Stand Pro is a MagSafe based stand/dock, that can hold on to your iPhone at any angle you desire, just like most mini tripods. However, the stand is able to automatically adjust itself when the camera is rolling to always ensure that a subject is in the frame. For visualisation, this works similarly to the Center-Stage feature on Apple iPads.

The Auto-Tracking Stand Pro uses the built-in subject-detection feature on newer iPhones to continuously adjust the angles of the stand, making sure any human subject never strays out of the frame in a video that involves a lot of motion. The stand itself offers 360-degrees pan support, and can also tilt a full 90-degrees.

Note that you will require at least and iPhone 12 (or a newer iPhone) to make the most of this stand, and yes, the stand will also need your phone to run iOS 17.

That’s not it, though. Being the first accessory to support Apple’s DockKit API, the stand will also be compatible with third-party apps like FaceTime, Instagram, WhatsApp and even Microsoft Teams. Any app that uses the cameras for video recording or conferences should be able to make use of the stand post an update that integrates DockKit functionality.

The Belkin Auto-Tracking Stand Pro uses NFC to pair with your iPhone, and comes with silent motors that shouldn’t affect your audio input. A bundled power brick also charges your iPhone at 15W wirelessly. Currently up for pre-order, the stand costs USD 180 (about Rs 14,954) and will be available for purchase later this year.
