Apple’s next iPhone Pro could be ‘Made-in-India’

The entire new iPhone lineup may finally be locally manufactured this year

Apple’s next iPhone Pro could be ‘Made-in-India’

Apple is expected to launch it next iPhone pretty soon, given that September (Apple’s usual month for new iPhones) is just around the corner. However, the next iPhone could be a little more special than usual for India. That’s because the entire iPhone series may be manufactured within the country.

As per a Bloomberg report, we may witness Apple’s first ever made-in-India iPhone Pro models. While the company has manufactured the non-Pro iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in India, all Pro models till date have always been imported in the country.

The upcoming iPhone series, likely to be called the iPhone 16 series, is also expected to feature four variants like last year. These are the vanilla iPhone, the iPhone Plus, the iPhone Pro and the iPhone Pro Max.

The new devices are expected to come with multiple changes, including larger displays on some models, a new processor under the hood, and Apple Intelligence support across the lineup, as per leaks.

There are also rumours of a new dedicated camera shutter button on all the models, which might just be the Action Button from the 15 Pro series, now relocated to a new spot.

Apple’s new iPhones are also likely to come with iOS 18 out of the box. The upcoming major software update has only been in beta testing since its announcement earlier this year, and the launch of the new iPhones may be the perfect stage for Apple to showcase the new software in action.

Coming back to the local assembly of the Pro phones, the iPhone Pro and Pro Max being put together in India, this may be the first time the entire iPhone lineup will be made in India at once. Apple is also likely to partner with the usual players Foxconn and Wistron in India for the same. This is likely to have multiple benefits.

For one, local manufacturing/assembly creates more job opportunities here. Secondly, it also has the potential to reduce the price of the phones in the country.

That said whether the move means the next iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max get more affordable in India remains to be seen, as pricing is likely based on many more factors and not just country of assembly.

Regardless, more details are likely to be made official once Apple launches the new iPhone. Stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma to know all about the new smartphones when that happens.
