Apple launched the Watch Ultra earlier this year, a rugged smartwatch, that can go with you where any other smart wearable would. If you’ve been planning an underwater expedition, then you’re in luck as Apple has announced the launch of a new app that is aimed at professional and recreational divers and swimmers. Called Oceanic+, it is an app designed by Huish Outdoors in partnership with Apple.
The Oceanic+ app essentially acts as a dive computer for depths of up to 40 metres. It offers a vast variety of dive data, including the diver’s current depth, dive time, no-decompression duration, water temperature, time to surface, maximum depth, ascending speed, battery life, gas mix choice (air or Nitrox mix up to 40%), and more.
Other features include colour-coded safety warnings, haptic feedback, exclusive watch face complications, tidal summaries, dive summary with detailed information like GPS coordinates, and more. Despite this, Apple claims that the app is not just for serious deep-sea divers, but can also be used while snorkelling or surface swimming.
The app is free of cost and is available on the App Store. Once installed on your phone (running iOS 16.1 or higher), it then shows up on your Watch Ultra. To access some of the advanced features, you’ll need to pay for a subscription. One can choose between Rs 89 per day, Rs 899 per month or Rs 7,500 per year.
To recall, the Apple Watch Ultra is priced at Rs 89,900, and is available at various online and offline channels, including croma.com and at your nearest Croma retail stores. It sports a 49mm aerospace-grade titanium body, and an action button on the side that can be programmed to perform various functions. It also features dual-frequency GPS and a battery that is good for up to 36 hours of usage on a single charge.
