A redesigned app may come by year end

Apple TV app reportedly getting a complete overhaul

With an aim to simplify user experience, Apple is looking at potentially revamping its Apple TV app. According to Bloomberg, the interface may resemble popular streaming services, and Apple could even be doing away with standalone apps. Here’s everything you need to know about the update coming your way.

Apple TV app redesign: What's on the cards?

Apple TV users are already familiar with the app’s workings. However, for those outside of the ecosystem, Apple TV offers a dedicated set-top-box that connects to your television, iPhones, iMacs and other TV operating devices. While the Apple TV app currently functions parallel to these devices, a new update could phase out a user’s need to purchase titles using their TV, making its app the only way to do so.

What will the new update look like?

The revamped app will feature a left-aligned panel that will help users to browse through different categories. The design is set to resemble several other popular OTT apps, including Netflix and Prime Video. This change will be brought in to streamline the renting and purchasing of movies and series, which are currently only accessible on the device or platform. Users, as of today, can only invest in the title of their choice via their Apple TV or iTunes app. In the near future, Apple will do away with these options.

With the new Apple TV app turning into a hub for users, titles such as The Morning ShowHijack, Ted LassoThe AfterpartyInvasionSeverance, among other streaming services, will be available in one place without the additional hassle of switching between multiple devices. The update, as of today, is expected sometime in December alongside tvOS 17.2.
