Apple smart glasses may be the brand’s next big project

How would this be different from the Vision Pro?

Apple smart glasses may be the brand’s next big project

Apple’s Vision Pro, which we covered last year, was one of the freshest products that the California based tech giant has launched in recent years. With a combination of sensors and some advanced camera tech, the Vision Pro bridged the gap between AR (Augmented Reality) and VR (Virtual Reality) headsets to bring in its own MR (Mixed Reality) twist in what the brand likes to call spatial computing.

However, months after its actual availability, users and experts have been vocal about some problems with Apple’s $3,500 headset. The Vision Pro is not only big, it is also heavy, which makes long-time use a problem. Not to mention – it is also extremely expensive.

This is why Apple’s next wearable project – a pair of smart glasses, makes a lot of sense.

Why smart glasses?

As per a report shared by Bloomberg, the team behind the Apple Vision Pro is now working on smart glasses. These should be much smaller and more compact than the Vision Pro, even if it means the smart glasses may not have all the tricks up its sleeve that its larger cousin is capable of.

If the concept feels familiar, that’s because smart glasses aren’t exactly a new product. Brands like Meta and Snap have been working on smart glasses for years. The recent Meta Orion smart glasses, are a good example of this, and is likely the market Apple will be targeting with its own product.

The Meta Orion glasses rely on Micro LED projectors and optical-grade silicon carbide for their wide-view display unit, custom silicon, and multi-layer sensory tracking. All these features combined provide an AI-first software experience.

While a pair of smart glasses may not be able to recreate the fancy, next-level visuals that a full-fledged headset like the Vision Pro can, it would be a more mass-oriented product. Glasses like the Meta Ray-Bans will cost about as much as a fraction of the Vision Pro, allowing more people to access the tech.

They will also allow users to wear them for longer. and not look like they are wearing some prototype tech on their heads. Unlike VR headsets, the glasses should also allow for better battery, and allow something you cannot do with headsets like the Vision Pro – go outside.

Well, there’s a lot to look forward to in the world of augmented reality and smart glasses, be prepared for a long wait for the Apple smart glasses, because the report also suggests that the product may not be launched before 2027.
