Apple Podcasts app gets new features to make discovering new podcasts easy

Table of Contents

Apple has revamped the search functionality on its Podcasts application, with an aim to make it easier for users to discover new podcast shows across a multitude of genres, using new sub-categories, and a podcasts by language tab.

It has added nine new sub-categories to its application, which include mental health, relationships, self-improvement, personal journals, entrepreneurship, documentary, books, parenting and language learning.

The new sub-categories are available on the Podcasts app on iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV devices as of now. The new sub-categories join an already existing line-up of about 19 main categories, which include topics such as comedy, true crime, sports, society and culture, and so on.

Each of the new sub-category has its own individual charts to display and recommend the top shows as well as episodes which fall under the same, along with revamped artwork and recommendations. The revamped artwork and recommendations are not just limited to the new sub-categories, however. They’ve been updated for existing categories as well.

Podcasts by language

Apple has also introduced a new section in the application referred to as Podcasts by Language. This feature, which is being rolled out in select markets as of now, including the US, UK, Canada and Australia, allows users to find podcasts in over 20 languages, including English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Arabic, Dutch and Korean, amongst others. Users in other markets on the other hand, will now see a new Podcasts in English block next to the search tab in the Apple Podcasts application.

Furthermore, Apple Podcasts is also expected to see numerous updates when iOS 17 rolls out. Earlier this month, Apple announced that it would update the now playing interface, queue tab, and add search filters, amongst other things in the application.
