Apple Maps will soon give you custom directions based on the car you drive; here’s how

Apple Maps and Google Maps, both, have constantly been working towards tailoring their user experiences based on what is convenient. And while a lot still prefer the latter, many have begun switching to Apple Maps after the company introduced features to enhance navigation. A recent development notes how the smartphone app could be looking at customised mapping and providing specific routes according to a user’s preferences. Here’s what you need to know:

Apple Maps customised experience: What's there to know?

A patent filing observed by Wccftech states how Apple could be looking at ‘extremely specific’ Apple Maps features for CarPlay. The filing, titled ‘User interfaces for customised navigation routes’, will provide directions based on your car and engine profile.

Once this is determined, Apple Maps can provide navigation based on your fuel level. So, if your car is low on fuel, the feature will automatically reroute you via a road with petrol pumps. Similarly, if your car is an electric vehicle, it could make you stop for you at a nearby charging station.

The report also suggests how this development may even be able to provide directions based on your car’s license plate. For instance, if you’re riding a two-wheeler, Apple Maps will automatically show you a route which is not just better suited and fuel-efficient for you, but will also show you a road where your vehicle is allowed or can go. This means a truck may not show up where a car is.

When will the feature be available for users?

The feature is under work and it remains unknown as to when it will be incorporated large scale for all smartphone users. Another improvement that seems to be underway will also allow users to create custom routes. Although not widely popular just as yet, Apple Maps is certainly looking at establishing space of being the default mapping app for users.
