Earlier this year, Apple Maps introduced a web version with limited features. Now, with newer features added, it is gradually turning into a worthy Google Maps rival.
Recently, Apple added a new feature to Apple Maps for the web known as Look Around. A version of Google’s Street View, the new feature allows users to explore a panoramic view of their surroundings with the help of camera-equipped cars.
Look Around added to Apple Maps for the web
Look Around, the latest feature on Apple Maps for the web, has been available on iPhone, iPad and Desktop versions since 2019. You can activate it by selecting the binoculars icon on the bottom left of the map window, as you would in the Apple Maps app. You can then click and drag on the map to see the first-person perspective.

Once launched, the Look Around view allows users to move along the street while checking the binoculars icon to keep track of their current position. Users can choose to see the full-screen view by selecting the arrows on the Look Around Viewer. If you wish to change the location, you can simply drag the map to place the binoculars icon in a new spot and start from there.
It is important to note that the Look Around feature is only supported in a few places including the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, and more.
While Google Maps has been a default app for many folks over the years, Apple Maps has been making significant improvements in the recent years. With an aim to add smaller cities and rural areas to the Look Around network, Apple is looking to expand the feature. To more such tech updates, subscribe to Unboxed by Croma.
