Could be the affordable iPhone we’ve been waiting for!

The next iPhone SE may launch with a new name, but with the same old formula

As per Apple’s usual launch timeline, the next iPhone series should launch in September or October this year. However, this year we might have another device arriving early. We are talking about the next iteration of the Apple iPhone SE.

A new report suggests that instead of following its usual mantra, Apple could give the SE iPhones a new identity (sort of) moving forward. Here’s everything you need to know about the next affordable iPhone, from its name, design to its expected specifications and features.

The next iPhone SE may arrive as the iPhone 16E

According to a report from MacRumors citing a Weibo post, Apple may launch the popular iPhone SE with a brand-new name. The device could be called the iPhone 16E or the iPhone 16e (that’s with a small e). Some reports also suggest the iPhone 16 SE moniker.

Now this is similar to what Google does with its Pixel smartphones. For instance, it launches the ‘a’ model of last year’s Pixel series (like the Google Pixel 8a) to cater to the affordable buyers. So, if this news is to be believed, Apple might use the same formula here.

Other than this, past reports have revealed some of the expected specifications and features of the next iPhone SE model. And as you’d guess, Apple might again recycle some of the design and specifications of the existing iPhones. Starting with the design, the device may have an  iPhone 16-like front design. However, some reports also suggest that it may have an iPhone 14-like design and form factor.

The smartphone is expected to feature a 6.1-inch OLED display, but it’s unclear if it will get ProMotion support or not. It is said to boast a single 48MP rear camera. It could be powered by a newer Apple’s A-series chipset with 8GB of RAM, enabling it to support Apple Intelligence.

Lastly, it should run on iOS 18 out of the box and may have an IP certification. While the next iPhone SE may not bring anything new over the existing iPhone 16 lineup, it could be a big upgrade for those who own the iPhone SE 2022 model. As for the pricing and availability, the next SE device may launch at a budget pricing and arrive in March this year.
