Most of the folks who travel by air, are worried about their baggage getting lost in transit, as soon as it leaves their eyesight at the check in counter. When the Apple AirTag launched, flyers across the globe began sliding them in their luggage to keep a track of where it was.

Now, Air India has added official support for AirTags to help you keep track of your luggage on flights.

Peace of mind at all times

Being one of the biggest airlines in India, Air India transports over 100 million items of baggage annually, and it does that with 99.6 per cent efficiency too. If you already own the Apple AirTag and want to take advantage of this new offering, here’s how you can do it –

First up, ensure that you have an AirTag in your luggage.

In case it doesn’t arrive at the destination airport, you can report it at Air India’s Baggage Counter at the airport. Air India airport staff will assist in filing a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) for the baggage.

After the report has been filed, you will then need to generate the ‘Share Item Location’ in the ‘Find My’ app on you Apple device and share the location link with Air India and associate it with the above-mentioned PIR via the Air India mobile app or website:

Mobile App: You can visit the ‘Customer Support Portal’ on the app and choose ‘Baggage’ and then select ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’ and provide the AirTag link there.

Website: You can visit ‘Lost and Found Check-in Baggage’ in the Customer Support Portal page to provide the ‘Share Item Location’ link for their Apple AirTag, along with PIR number. Following this, you will receive an acknowledgment email from Air India with a link to check baggage status.

The shared AirTag link will then be used by Air India’s authorised airport teams to locate the baggage if its within airport premises and reunite the baggage with you at the earliest.

To ensure that your privacy is maintained at all times, the location tracking will be turned off by Air India as soon as you receive your bag, or automatically after seven days.

Also, you can turn it off at any time. Just make sure your Apple device is iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later so that you are able to share your location with Air India.
