Meta recently introduced an AI chatbot for WhatsApp, which allows users to generate images and text using prompts. The feature can be natively accessed on WhatsApp and was recently rolled out to users across India and a few other countries. That said, the brand announced that it could soon be available for Instagram users, as well.
Meta AI for Instagram: What's there to know?
Meta, in a statement, confirmed this development, which mentioned how the generative AI experiences are currently undergoing changes in various phases. The company went on to mention how this feature is being tested publicly, albeit only to a limited subset of people.

The feature was spotted by folks at TechCrunch, where the AI chatbot in question was present within the main search bar of the smartphone app. Several other instances were also reported where Meta AI was present within the DM search instead.
Users can have a conversation with the chatbot by clicking on the icon within their DM. This would be similar to speaking with your friend on chat. While it remains unclear as to what the feature will do differently on Instagram, many users have stated how the AI bot can navigate to Reels when prompted.
What all can Meta AI do?
Meta AI will work similarly to that of the likes of ChatGPT or Google Gemini. That said, it is still only limited to text-based prompts and cannot receive voice commands like the abovementioned.
Meta AI can fetch real-time information as well as news, generate images, and texts and also be a part of your group messages on WhatsApp. Meta has also mentioned how discussing your hobbies and interests with the chatbot could help influence your search results and allow the bot to respond to a wide range of topics.
