Just the other day, there was a rumour from Supercharged news, around Apple potentially releasing a slew of new iPads, including an updated base model iPad, iPad Mini as well and iPad Air. Needless to say, it set online forums abuzz immediately. However, Mac Otakara, a Japanese blog site, now suggests that rather than an updated iPad lineup, Apple may release the Apple Pencil 3 instead.
The third-gen Apple Pencil might be around the corner
As per the report, Apple is working on and will soon release its latest stylus, the Apple Pencil 3. The predecessor, the second-generation Apple Pencil, was released five years ago, in 2018. The new third-generation Apple Pencil, as per rumours, is expected to get three cool new features.
1. Interchangeable magnetic tips
The new Apple Pencil 3 will reportedly feature three interchangeable magnetic tips, each suited to a different use case. These could include writing, sketching, painting, designing, and others.
2. USB Type-C port
The third generation of the Apple Pencil might take a leaf out of the iPhone 15’s book and come with a USB Type-C port. While leaked renders do not suggest the same, Steve Moser from MacRumors said in a post on X (formerly Twitter), that he spotted a line in the iOS 17.1 Beta 2 which said PENCIL_LOW_BATTERY_ALERT_MESSAGE – “Connect to USB-C to recharge soon.”
3. Colour sampling capabilities
Perhaps one of the biggest upgrades to the Apple Pencil though, according to Moser might be colour sampling capabilities. Basically, the pencil, via an optical sensor and light will be able to recreate the colours of real-life objects, for use digitally.

While the report does say that the new Apple Pencil is around the corner, Apple analyst and journalist at Bloomberg, Mark Gurman, says that Apple’s updated iPad lineup is around the corner, which also corroborates with the aforementioned rumours.
