5 home appliances to buy during the monsoon

The start of the monsoon is a wonderful, perhaps even magical time. The weather is instantly more pleasant, the dust and grime of the surroundings get washed off, and we get to enjoy a much-needed respite from the scorching summer heat. Partway through the monsoon though, fatigue can start to set in.

Everything stays damp, foodstuffs get spoiled quickly, clothes don’t dry, and of course, voltage fluctuations threaten to blow up your electronics. Here are some appliances that can help mitigate these issues and let you enjoy each day of the monsoon just as much as you did the day it started.

1. Origin Novita Dehumidifier

The best thing you can get for your home is a dehumidifier. During the monsoons, it’s the humidity in the air that creates the most problems. With high humidity, clothes won’t dry because the air can’t absorb moisture, sweat won’t evaporate so you might feel warm and clammy, and of course, electronics might start shorting because of the moisture in the air.

A dehumidifier can alleviate these issues by absorbing moisture from the air. If people in your home suffer from asthma or other respiratory issues, a dehumidifier can help them as well. If you’re interested in one, we’d start with the Origin Novita Dehumidifier. With a coverage area of about 3000sft, it’s designed for large homes. It also includes a carbon filter that helps with odours and a limited amount of air purification.

2. Bajaj RHX-2 800 Watts Halogen Room Heater

A heater makes for a great pairing with a dehumidifier in colder environments. Not only do you heat up the room and make it more comfortable, but the heater will also help with speeding up the drying of clothes and help prevent condensation from forming. Of the various types of heaters you can get, we’d recommend a fan-less room heater like the Bajaj RHX-2. This heater is inexpensive, and since it has no fan, is noiseless in operation. You can leave it on in a corner of the room and just let it heat up the space with radiant heat.

3. Croma CRS75RAWPA307002 7.5L RO + UV Water Purifier

Another essential during the monsoons is a good water purifier. Water gets contaminated more easily during the rains, and this applies to bottled water as well, not because the water itself will get contaminated, but because the bottles might be stored in unsanitary conditions. Whatever the case, it’s harder to trust water sourced from other sources during the monsoon, and investing in a good water purifier is important to ensure clean and safe drinking water for you and your loved ones.

In this case, we’d recommend the Croma 7.5l RO + UV water purifier. The UV filter will get rid of any microbes, while the RO or reverse osmosis filtration process will eliminate the finest of suspended particulates and excess dissolved salts.

4. V-GUARD VWI 400 Voltage Stabiliser

Another issue everyone faces during the monsoon is severe fluctuations. A lot of our electrical infrastructure is exposed, and this factor coupled with seepage in most of our houses can lead to short circuits and other issues. If you don’t have an inverter, we’d strongly suggest you get yourself a good voltage stabiliser before the rains start.

It’s best to install a stabiliser for each of the large appliances in your house, this includes ACs, TVs, and refrigerators. Our choice for stabiliser is the V-Guard VWI 400, which has a 12A output for handling ACs with up to a 1.5 ton capacity.

5. Croma 1500 Watt 1.8 Litre Electric Kettle

What’s a chilly, rainy afternoon without a cup of steaming hot tea to keep you company? To ensure that you have a ready supply of hot water, get yourself a good electric kettle with a large volume so you can just leave it topped up all the time. The Croma 1500W 1.8L electric kettle is a great option here. It’s inexpensive, has a large water capacity, and can bring water to a boil in mere minutes.
