YouTube lately has been in the news for introducing new features, such as AI-based tools for creators, and testing new developments for its music streaming app. But if that’s not all, a more recent announcement stated how the popular video streaming platform is also planning to introduce text-to-speech narration for its shorts.
The artificial voiceover will be similar to that of TikTok and will use artificial intelligence to generate a voice for the clip. Here’s everything you need to know:
YouTube Shorts Text-to-Speech tool: What's there to know?
YouTube stated how the feature will be able to use the feature by utilising the ‘Add Voice’ icon on their Shorts video. The tool will sit on the top left corner of the screen and will allow users to pick between the voices they like. Unlike TikTok, YouTube, for now, only features four voices. That said, it is essential to note that you might also have to create text for your Shorts video before using a text-to-speech tool on it.

Apart from this, YouTube mentions how it will also be rolling out auto-generated captions to a video. This tool will essentially rule out the need for a separate third-party smartphone app, such as CapCut, to create captions. The tool, along with the usual YouTube text overlays, will let users create captions using different font sizes and colours.
Lastly, the company has also thrown in a Minecraft-like transition effect, and a minigame known as Minecraft Rush.
When will the YouTube Shorts Text-to-Speech tool be available for everyone?
The platform currently hasn’t mentioned as to when the feature will be rolled out to a larger audience. However, an official blog post mentions that it will soon be available for all YouTube Shorts creators soon.
The company also recently introduced a few other services, including Auto Layout, which will automatically track the main subject in your video as you turn it into a Short. The tool will also dynamically pan, zoom, and crop to make sure your Shorts look great. Apart from this, it will also introduce the ‘Add Yours’ sticker to inspire other users to contribute, as Instagram does.
With the inclusion of AI-driven tools, the platform does seem to have a bunch of other features in the pipeline. However, for more announcements and details, make sure you visit Unboxed by Croma.
