YouTube Premium has always been very affordable in India compared to many other countries in the west. However, Google is now beginning to raise the prices of its Premium tier for the streaming platform. The company has just announced hiked plan prices across multiple YouTube Premium subscription plans in India.
These include both individual plans as well as family plans, which one can use to enjoy ad-free streaming on their smartphones, laptops and even TVs. Here’s how much you will now need to pay to skip those ads.
YouTube Premium plans in India: How much do you need to pay?
The new YouTube Premium plans start at Rs 89 per month and go all the way up to Rs 1490 a year. Here’s a categorised look at the new prices.

YouTube Premium Student plan: The new YouTube Premium Student plan costs Rs 89 a month instead of Rs 79 a month. This notes an increase of Rs 10. The plan will continue to be billed monthly.
YouTube Premium Individual plan: The YouTube Premium Individual plan will now cost Rs 149 per person every month, instead of Rs 129 every month, getting hiked by Rs 20. This plan too will be billed monthly.
YouTube Premium Family plan: The YouTube Premium Family plan will now cost Rs 299 every month, instead of Rs 189, getting hiked by Rs 110. This plan will also be billed every month.
YouTube Premium Prepaid plans
YouTube Premium also offer some prepaid Individual plans for a more long-term subscription. These are the Individual Prepaid Monthly plan, which costs Rs 159 instead of Rs 139, the Prepaid Quarterly plan, which costs Rs 459 instead of Rs 399, and the Prepaid Annual plan, which costs Rs 1490 instead of Rs 1290.
All existing subscribers of YouTube Premium should soon see a new email informing them of the new prices, and can then choose to pay more or cancel their subscription. Newer subscribers, on the other hand, are likely to directly be on-boarded with the hiked prices.
