As Spotify and Apple Music fans await their year-end wrapped report, YouTube seems to have jumped the queue by unveiling its annual Recap early this time around. Known as YouTube Music Recap, the yearly lowdown gives users a detailed insight into their streaming habits and top-played songs over the course of ten months.
YouTube only introduced its Recap a few years ago but has already brought in new features, such as ‘Music Character,’ in 2024, for users looking for a more personalised report. Here’s everything new that it will offer, and also how to check yours:
YouTube Recap 2024: What's new?
Like Spotify, YouTube Music this time has brought forth social-friendly listening metric cards. While last year the music and video streaming platform introduced ‘Your Album Cover’, this time around, users can deep dive into their ‘Music Character’.

The insight provides an engaging animation reflecting a user’s music preferences. This is based on YouTube’s analysis of your listening habits throughout the year. The character is said to represent your distinct style by taking into account your genre, mood or time spent. Some of the examples include ‘The Muscle’ or ‘The Time Traveller’, which is based on high-energy tracks or nostalgic music that a user may have been listening to.
Apart from that, some of the other features remain the same as last year. These include Top Tracks, Top Artists and Listening Timeline. Apart from this, YouTube also provides podcast listening statistics as well as mood insights.
How to see your YouTube Music Recap 2024
Premium user or not, YouTube Music Recap is available to just about everyone with the smartphone app. However, before you go ahead, make sure your app is updated to the latest version. Once you’re through, these are the steps you need to follow:
Step 1: Open the YouTube Music app on your Android or iOS smartphone
Step 2: You can then tap on the small compass sign on the top of the page, or scroll down to the section below the ‘Speed Dial’ panel to find your statistics
Step 3: Once you tap on the ‘Get your Recap’ button, the slides should automatically load for you
You can then skim through all your statistics or tap to skip to your favourite parts. If that’s not all, you will also find a Download button to save your favourite slides or share them directly to your social media accounts, like Instagram.
YouTube Music’s year-end wrap has levelled up and brought in multiple elements this time around. The Spotify-like features and easy-to-share template also mean we might see a lot more quirky insights hereon, rightfully challenging the other two streaming giants in the years to come.
