Xiaomi announced a host of new products last night – including its latest flagship Xiaomi 15 series of smartphones, the Xiaomi Pad 7 and the Xiaomi Watch S4. However, the brand also announced a new iteration of its HyperOS operating system. Namely, HyperOS 2. Here’s all you need to know.
HyperOS 2: Features to look out for
HyperOS 2, Xiaomi says, is based on three new technologies – HyperCore, HyperConnect, and HyperAI.
Xiaomi HyperCore
HyperCore, which is Xiaomi’s latest in-house kernel technology platform, gets a new microarchitecture scheduler that reduces CPU idle time as well as latency. In simpler terms, devices eligible for the HyperOS 2 update should now get faster app launches, lower power consumption during resource-intensive tasks such as gaming, and smooth performance even under heavy workloads.
Xiaomi HyperConnect
Next up, there is HyperConnect. HyperConnect enables seamless integration across the Xiaomi ecosystem, with the ‘HomeScreen+’ feature. Users will now be able to drag apps from their Xiaomi smartphones to their tablets, or even add them as native apps. Also, on offer is support for dual-camera streaming between Xiaomi tablets and smartphones. That’s not all.

In mainland China (Hopefully, only for now), HyperConnect is also fully compatible with Apple devices, with Xiaomi Interconnectivity Services. This, in essence, allows Apple users to browse through their files, and share pictures, as well as notes and contacts on Xiaomi devices.
Xiaomi HyperAI
Lastly and most importantly, there is HyperAI. HyperAI brings with it several new AI-powered features to Xiaomi, aimed at elevating your user experience.
First off, there is Global AI Writing for text generation as well as summarisation, and corrections. Next is Global AI voice recognition, which can record calls and create automatic summaries of the same for reference later. HyperOS 2 will also get an AI Translation feature, which can transcribe meetings with bilingual subtitles in real-time.
AI magic painting on the other hand, which gets a sketch-to-image generation feature, allows you to create life-like images on the go.
One of the most important new features though, is AI Anti-Fraud. This feature, the company claims, can automatically identify and notify you of fraudulent calls or videos with face swapping. Depending on how effectively it works, it could greatly add to your device’s safety and security.
Besides the above, HyperOS 2 also gets several new visual upgrades. First off is an AI-powered lock screen, which can leverage movie-poster-like styles to create a more personalised look and feel for your device.
There’s also a new home screen layout with “visual upgrades and customised content” (Which Xiaomi doesn’t speak about in detail as of now) for a richer appearance, smoother animations, and new 3D animations in the Weather app as well.
Xiaomi HyperOS 2: Devices eligible for the update
Xiaomi HyperOS 2 will come pre-installed on the recently announced Xiaomi 15 series of smartphones as well as the Xiaomi Pad 7 and Pad 7 Pro tablets. In addition to this, the following devices will also be eligible for the update.

When will your Xiaomi device get the HyperOS 2 update?
There is no doubt that HyperOS 2 brings with it several new game-changing features. Features that theoretically, could allow the company to take the fight to Samsung’s and Apple’s ecosystem closer. Unfortunately though, you will have to wait a tad bit longer to be able to check it out for yourself.

This is because for now, Xiaomi has announced only a China-specific launch timeline for the operating system, which goes up until December 2024. Other devices are also expected to receive the update in 2025. When and which devices in international markets will receive the update though, remains unknown.
