Here’s when your iPhone will get Apple Intelligence

At the Apple ‘Glowtime’ Event 2024, while introducing the new iPhone 16 lineup, Apple also announced Apple Intelligence (AI) with the new iPhones. Since the entire lineup has been “built from the ground up” for Apple Intelligence.

However, the AI-powered Apple Intelligence features are not exclusive to the iPhone 16 series, as select older iPhones will also get the suite. Here’s a quick look at which iPhones will get Apple Intelligence and when.

Apple Intelligence: Which iPhones will support it

Apple Intelligence will be available as a free software update. The first set of Apple Intelligence will be rolled out in beta next month as part of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1. Other features will be rolled out in months to come.

The features will initially be locked to English (US) users, and additional languages will be available by next year. These include localised English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK in December. Apple will also roll out additional language support in Chinese, French, Japanese, and Spanish next year.

Apple Intelligence will be available on iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max. The feature will also come to all the newer iPads and Macs which come with an M-series chipset.

What is Apple Intelligence?

For those new to the topic, Apple Intelligence is an AI-suite of features that will be deeply integrated within Apple software on supported devices. Apple Intelligence features will be available to use across the system, and will also sync between multiple devices connected to the same network.

Features include elements like Writing Tools, users can rewrite, proofread and summarise text on all built-in and third-party apps including Notes, Mail, Pages, etc.

In Photos, the Memories feature allows users to create movies they want by typing in a description. As an add-on, users can search for specific pictures. This feature will also enable the user to find a specific moment in a particular video for their perusal. The new Clean Up Tool identifies and removes distracting objects in the background of a photo without messing up the subject.

Coming to audio, while using the Notes and Phone apps, users can record, transcribe and summarise audio. When a recording is initiated while on a call, participants are notified and once the call ends, Apple Intelligence generates a summary to help recall key points.

Apple Intelligence will help with prioritising tasks with summarised notifications from apps. It will also filters Priority Messages in Mail that surfaces the time-sensitive messages. Reduce Interruptions is a new feature that pings for notifications that might need immediate attention only.

Across the inbox, summaries will convey the gist instead of previewing the first few lines of the email. The summaries will help users scan long or stacked notifications to show key details right on the screen lock as well. Smart Reply in mail will provides users with suggestions for a quick response by identifying the questions and ensuring everything is answered.
