WhatsApp’s newest security features: Here’s what you need to know

Meta-owned WhatsApp recently came up with three security features to help enhance privacy for Android and iOS, and we’re all for it. Owing to its ‘Stay Safe with WhatsApp’ campaign, the tech giant rolled out the update on April 14 to help users enjoy a fun, safe chat space. However, if you missed out on the crucial highlights, we have them covered for you. Check them out below:

3 new WhatsApp security features to look out for

Account Protect: With this feature, WhatsApp can now verify if it is really you trying to log in when you register a new device. In fact, your old phone will be notified with a verification message to help avoid any unauthorised login into your account. So, with an added layer of privacy, you can be rest assured that there are no external factors trying to hack into your WhatsApp during your transfer.

Device Verification: If you, like us, are constantly worried about malware, WhatsApp’s second security feature is designed to tackle any malicious software or file that can potentially harm your device. Device verification can automatically take over your phone or account to stop any threats without any manual intervention.

Automatic Security: The next time you receive a text from an unknown user, WhatsApp’s third security feature — automatic security — can tell you who you are chatting with. This is possible using security codes found under a contact’s information under the encryption tab. An automated feature dubbed key transparency can help you confirm your connection with this contact. Additionally, you can check if your personal connection is secure within the encryption tab itself.

Making your WhatsApp account more secure

Apart from its newly added features, a few additional steps can ensure better security for your data and account. Check them out here:

  • Make sure you download WhatsApp only from the Google PlayStore and Apple App Store.
  • Always enable a two-step verification, which you can find under the settings tab.
  • Avoid downloading files from unknown senders and unverified sources.

With these steps in place, you certainly don’t have to worry about being hacked or a possible infection.
