WhatsApp users can now tag their friends in status updates

WhatsApp is getting cues from Instagram

WhatsApp users can now tag their friends in status updates

Meta-owned WhatsApp has introduced two new nifty features to the app, helping you to stay connected with your friends and family members. These features are coming to status updates, and they could be familiar to you if you are an avid Instagram user.

The features in question are the ability to like status updates and privately mention your friends on status. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest features on WhatsApp.

Like, tag, and reshare on WhatsApp

WhatsApp is getting an Instagram-like ‘like’ button for status updates. This means you can like your friend’s status by pressing the green-coloured heart icon. Liking someone’s status update won’t notify the person, instead, they will be able to see your like in the status updates tab upon opening the status.

Another new feature coming to WhatsApp is the ability to tag people in your status updates. You can privately mention your friends and then they can repost the status. Since you would have privately mentioned your friends, they will also be notified privately.

WhatsApp confirmed that both of these features are now rolling out, and they will be available globally to iPhones and Android phones soon. So, if you do not see these features right away, just wait for them to show up.

Other than this, WhatsApp in its blog post, confirmed that it will be bringing more features to status and the updates tab over the next few months. The company hasn’t revealed the exact features we will be able to use, but we should learn more about that soon.

Users get to choose the following filters, namely, Warm, Cool, Black & White, Light leak, Dreamy, Prism light, Fisheye, Vintage, Frosted glass, and Duo tone.
