Air conditioners, in addition to the summer months, also happen to be particularly useful during the monsoons, owing to excessive humidity. Wondering how? We’ve got two words for you: Dry mode. Chances are, most of you have seen this setting on your ACs, but likely don’t know what it does, and have never used it. But we’re here to tell you today, that this often-overlooked setting can be your greatest ally against humidity. Wondering how? Read on.
What does dry mode do?
Dry mode, sometimes called dehumidification mode, is a setting on ACs that focuses on lowering the humidity in the room while maintaining a constant, cool temperature. It automatically turns the compressor of the Air conditioners on and off for short periods of time, while the fan continues to run at a low speed. Reduced fan speeds allow the evaporator coil to cool. This causes moisture in the air to condense and gather in the unit’s drain pan. In humid areas, dry mode is beneficial since it inhibits the formation of mildew while maintaining a comfortable climate indoors. The primary goal of dry mode then, is to dry the air rather than to lower the room’s temperature, making it more pleasant and comfortable.
Benefits of dry mode
Dry mode on ACs is beneficial during the monsoons when humidity levels are high.
1. Reduced humidity
The main benefit of dry mode, as mentioned earlier, is that it removes extra moisture from the air. Your AC therefore dehumidifies your space, making it more pleasant and less sticky.
2. Energy efficiency
Compared to cool mode, dry mode uses less energy, as here, dehumidification takes preference over cooling.
3. Allergy and asthma relief
For those who are allergic to mould, dust mites, and other allergens in particular, excessive humidity can worsen asthmatic and allergic symptoms. Dry mode takes care of these triggers by lowering the moisture level in the air.
4. Improved air quality
Dry mode lowers humidity in the room, while also filtering air to remove pollen, dust, and other airborne contaminants. This ensures cleaner air and a healthier living environment.

Thanks for this info. I recently bought a AC from Croma and my room was pretty moist both due to rains and due to drying clothes indoors in rooms because of rains. \n\nI was wondering if AC can help remove moisture and reading about dry mode found just the mode to help.\n\nPut on dry mode for and felt the moisture getting reduced in just an hour or two. \n\nThanks for this info. I found it useful :).
