Vivo Y18e is a no-frills budget smartphone launched in India

It’s no mystery that brands including Vivo, Oppo, Realme, and Redmi have been making steady inroads in the budget smartphone segment, unveiling several new offerings recently. All in a bid to capture the lion’s share in the market. Now, Vivo has pitched in with yet another offering in the segment – the Y18e. Here’s what you need to know about the device.

Vivo Y18e key specifications and features

The latest budget offering from Vivo, the Y18e, is powered by a MediaTek Helio G85 processor, and gets 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM with 64GB storage. Storage on the device is also expandable though – up to 1TB via a microSD card. Under the hood of the device is a 5,000mAh Li-ion battery, with support for 15Wc charging.

Coming to the display, the Vivo Y18 gets a 6.5-inch LCD display with an HD+ resolution of 1612 x 720 pixels. The capacitive multi-touch display supports up to 90Hz refresh rate, with a peak brightness of up to 528 nits in high brightness mode. The device also gets an IP54 rating, meaning it should be able to deal with minor spills and splashes.

The phone gets a dual camera setup at the rear, with 13MP primary sensor and a 0.08MP secondary sensor. On the front is a 5MP sensor for selfies and video calls.

The Vivo Y18e gets Bluetooth 5.0 support as well as 2.4 GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi connectivity. However, it doesn’t support 5G mobile connectivity.

What’s more, it doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor either. This coupled with the fact that there is no charger included in the box, nor is a case included, suggests that the smartphone is for those who are on an extremely tight budget or looking for a no-frills, bare-bones experience.

The Vivo Y18e 5G comes running on Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14 straight out of the box. However, Vivo hasn’t mentioned how many years of software and security updates it will be offering.

Vivo Y18e pricing and availability

The Vivo Y18e can be had in two colours, Space Black and Gem Green, and is priced at Rs 7,999.

A few other options you can consider in this price range are the Redmi A3 and the Samsung Galaxy A05, if you’re looking for devices with a slightly higher amount of RAM and storage.
