Vivo Y17s pairs the essential Android experience with affordability

While its easy to get caught up in the web of flashy smartphones like the iPhone 15 series or the upcoming OnePlus foldable, there’s a completely different market out there for entry-level smartphones. These are handy devices that get you the app support and connectivity features to stay up-to-date with the world, without burning a deep hole in your pocket.

While the options in this budget segment may feel scarce, Vivo’s new Y17s may have you changing your mind. Here’s a deeper look at the phone including price, features and specifications.

Vivo Y17s: Specifications and features

The Vivo Y17s comes with a 720p IPS LCD display and a refresh rate of 60Hz. The panel can go up to 700 nits of brightness and has a waterdrop-notch on the top that houses the front camera. With a plastic body, the Vivo Y17s also features an IP54 water resistance rating that should offer it some protection in the rain.

Powered by the MediaTek Helio G85, the phone is capable of running most modern productivity apps and even some casual games. However, you miss out on 5G support. The phone comes with 4GB RAM and two storage variants of 64GB or 128GB, along with an option to expand your storage with a microSD card slot. With Android 13 support, you also get access to the latest version of the operating system.

Coming to cameras, the Vivo Y17s sports a 50MP main camera on the back along with a 2MP depth sensor and a single LED flash. There’s also an 8MP camera on the front for selfies and video calls. Lastly, the phone is kept running by a 5,000mAh battery, which supports 15W charging via a USB Type-C port. Other features here include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a 3.5mm headphone port.

The Vivo V17s is priced at Rs 11,499 for the 4GB/64GB variant and Rs 12,499 for the 4GB/128GB variant. If that’s the segment you’re eyeing, you can also check out the Realme C53 to save some more money, or the Redmi 12 5G, which comes with better specifications and 5G support.
