Upcoming smartphones in 2025 to watch out for

It’s new year, which means it’s time for the release of fresh new smartphones. From the next Galaxy S-series phones and the iPhone 17 series – both of which are expected to pack a new compact variant, to Nothing’s first flagship phone in over a year, and many more. Here are all the cool smartphones to watch out for this year.

1. OnePlus 13

The OnePlus 13 is already available in China and it’s set to launch on January 7 in India. On the same date, OnePlus will also launch the OnePlus 13R. Both phones will most likely feature a 120Hz AMOLED display and a triple-rear camera system. The OnePlus 13 may get a camera system co-engineered by Hasselblad.

Powering the OnePlus 13 will be a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, whereas, the affordable OnePlus 13R may come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC. Expect large batteries on both phones, with the OnePlus 13 featuring a whopping 6,000mAh cell, and support for 100W fast charging.

2. Samsung Galaxy S25

The Samsung Galaxy S25 series comprising the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra is expected to launch in late January. A fourth model dubbed the Galaxy S25 Slim may also arrive later. The series will likely be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and run Android 15-based One UI 7 out of the box.

Expect improved cameras and a lot of AI features. As it was recently revealed, the phones may also come with a free Gemini Advanced subscription.

3. Nothing Phone (3)

The Nothing Phone (3) will finally arrive in 2025. The device will succeed the Nothing Phone (2) launched in 2023. While it’s not confirmed, the Phone (3) may come with a flagship-grade Snapdragon chipset and run Android 15-based Nothing OS 3.0. It is also expected to get upgraded cameras.

Accompanying the Nothing Phone (3) will be the Phone (3a) and the Nothing (3a) Plus, both phones should arrive sometime later this year with a Snapdragon chipset. Early details reveal the presence of a dedicated telephoto lens on these models. Apart from this, expect a lot of AI features.

4. Xiaomi 15

The Xiaomi 15 may make its India debut in early 2025. The smartphone is expected to feature a 6.36-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate support. It will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and be paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 512GB or 1TB of internal storage.

The device may have a 50MP triple-rear camera system with Leica tuning. It will likely pack a 5,400mAh battery with 90W wired and 50W wireless fast charging support. The device will boot Android 15-based HyperOS 2 on top.

5. iPhone 17

Apple will release the iPhone 17 series sometime in September or October. The series will likely comprise the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air/Slim, iPhone 17 Pro, and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. While the entire series this time is expected to feature a ProMotion display, the iPhone 17 Air/Slim is expected to be the highlight.

As the name suggests, the iPhone 17 Air/Slim is expected be the thinnest iPhone in the lineup. It could also be the pricier model in the series. Expect a smaller pill-shaped cutout on the front, which will result in a narrower Dynamic Island. All phones in the series are expected to be powered by Apple’s A19 series chipset, with the Pro models getting A19 Pro.

These are all the major smartphone releases you can expect in 2025. Apart from this, Google might also launch the Pixel 9a series with a Tensor G4 series and a large battery.
