Top streaming services for your new Smart TV

Your Smart TV is no better than a regular TV if all you use it for is connecting to your DTH set-top-box. To dive into what Smart TVs can offer, one must get a taste of the OTT realm. If you’re new to the world of streaming services, however, things can be overwhelming at first given the sheer choice of platforms and plans, and that’s okay. Here’s a list of the top streaming services you can check out in India for every Smart TV user.

Netflix

Netflix, for many, is synonymous with the OTT revolution and for good reason. The platform has a huge library of content including movies, TV shows as well as documentaries. It is also the pioneer of many features that have today become common like the handy ‘Skip Intro’ button.

In India, Netflix plans start at Rs 149 a month, but to make the most of platform on your TV in 1080p FHD or 4K, you will need the Rs 499 (standard) or Rs 649 (premium) plan respectively. Disney+ Hotstar

Plans in India start at Rs 899 per year, which is enough for FHD streaming on a TV, but for additional devices and 4K streaming, you will have to choose the Premium plan that’s available at Rs 299 a month or Rs 1,499 a year.

Prime Video

Prime Video is another popular content destination for Indians. Being a part of the Prime subscription that also offers other perks including free quick e-commerce shipping across the country, this streaming platform also offers a huge content library across popular movies and TV shows. The overall subscription costs Rs 179 per month or Rs 459 for three months. Users can also get a yearly plan at Rs 1,499.

Voot

If Indian shows and movies are your cup of tea, Voot has a huge library of popular reality TV shows like Big Boss, Splitsvilla, Roadies, and TV series like Asur and movies like Rocketry, 777 Charlie and Shabaash Mithu. For when you want a taste of global movies and shows, the platform also has shows like Dexter, Halo and Shark Tank. A Voot subscription starts at Rs 299 per year.

SonyLiv

SonyLiv is yet another popular streaming destination for entertainment and sports. The platform hosts a large library of movies and shows, including Indian classics like Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma, Scam 1992 and Gullak, along with the UEFA Champions league and UEFA Europa League for the football fans out there. SonyLiv plans in India for your TV will kick off at Rs 299 a month, Rs 699 for six months or Rs 999 for a year.
