Action cameras have become all the rage in recent years, owing to their extremely stable and crystal-clear image quality, as well as their compact form factor and rugged build quality. These gadgets are perfect for adrenaline junkies as well as content creators who are on the move constantly and may not be able to carry heavy DSLRs, lens kits, and tripods everywhere.
While action cameras are extremely handy, a common issue people often face with them is battery life, and also distorted image quality when one shoots wide-angle videos. Well, this is where GoPro’s Hero12 Black Edition steps in, coupled with the Max Lens Mod 2.0 accessory.
GoPro Hero12 Black Edition launched
The GoPro Hero12 Black action camera is the successor to the GoPro Hero11 Black, and the Hero11 Black Creator edition. It features a 1/1.9-inch sensor that can shoot videos in an 8:7 aspect ratio in both, 4K and 5.3K resolution at 30 and 60fps. The same can be done across different shooting modes including timelapse and night mode.
Users can also capture 27MP photos from the camera, as well as 24.7MP stills from videos. The device features a rugged build quality and is waterproof up to 33 feet without any extra protection required.
One of the most exciting things to look out for with the camera is the Max Lens Mod 2.0 accessory. The mod enables a 177-degrees field-of-view at 4K resolution, at 60fps. The accessory also allows for up to a 36 per cent wider field-of-view while recording videos in landscape mode, and up to 48 per cent taller field-of-view when capturing video in portrait mode.
The HyperSmooth 6.0 technology features AutoBoost, which automatically enhances video stabilisation as and when required. It also enables horizon-leveling even with a full 360-degrees camera rotation.
Under the hood, the GoPro Hero12 Black features a redesigned power management system, which allows for up to 70 or 95 minutes of continuous recording at 5.3K resolution, depending on whether one shoots at 30 or 60fps. The same can also be stretched to as long as 155 minutes, at a 1080p resolution at 30fps.
It also features support for wireless connection with multiple Bluetooth devices, including truly wireless earbuds, headphones, as well as microphones, enabling clearer narration during videos, as well as ease in issuing voice commands to the camera from a distance.
