The Blue Screen of Death may soon turn black on Windows 11

This change can be seen in the latest Insider Build of Windows 11

The Blue Screen of Death may soon turn black on Windows 11

After years of frightening people across the globe, it seems like the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) looks set to change its colour. Microsoft announced this change in a blog post, accompanying the release of the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview build.

The new BSOD will not be blue, of course, will lose the frowning face which added a touch of humor to the rather scary situation, and the QR, which scanned by a few, granted a path for the users to troubleshoot the issues cropping up on their machine.

The new BSOD screen in Windows 11 will be black

Replacing BSOD will be a black screen, which by the looks of it will be similar to what we see when Windows is updating. There will be a simple message – ‘Your device ran into a problem and needs to restart’ and a progress indicator, showing the per centage of the progress made.

The new screen will also have the Stop Code for the geeks helping them identify the exact issue and a simple description of the issue, prefixed by – ‘What failed:’.

This is not the first time Microsoft has tried this out. After a brief run in 2021’s test builds, Microsoft had retained the blue colour for the infamous BSOD. However, with the 24H2 update of Windows 11, this change seems to be coming soon for everyone.

If you are a part of Windows Insider, you can try this out in the test versions of the Beta, Dev, and Canary Channels. For now, it will be appear green, but will eventually turn to black. Or, if Microsoft decides that it is too big to change out of blue, it will remain the iconic blue colour.

With the Windows 10 end of life October deadline approaching, Microsoft will be actively working on such updates, as more and more users flock to the latest build of Windows. Let us know what you think of this change. Will you miss the BSOD? If yes, why!? And, stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma.
