Tecno Pop 9 launched with water-resistant design for under Rs 7,000

Tecno has launched a new budget smartphone in the Indian market. The Tecno Pop 9 is the latest entrant in its Pop-series of smartphones. This one is a 4G counterpart of the Pop 9 5G, which launched in September this year.

Some of the highlights of the latest Tecno Pop 9 include a high refresh rate display, a large battery, and a water-resistant design. All that for a price of under Rs 7,000. Read on to see the smartphone’s full specifications and features.

Tecno Pop 9 specifications and features

The Pop 9 smartphone comes with a minimal design that may remind you of the Apple iPhone 15 from the rear. That’s because the camera lens placement is diagonal and there’s also a camera island to hold the two available lenses.

The device has a large punch-hole display with noticeable bezels at the bottom. The screen is sized 6.67 inches and it has a refresh rate of 90Hz, allowing you to get smooth scrolls throughout the UI. As for the screen resolution, it’s 1612 x 720 pixels.

The smartphone is equipped with a dual-rear camera system with a 13MP main lens and an auxiliary sensor. Upfront, there’s an 8MP camera for clicking selfies. Both the rear and the front cameras are accompanied by dual-LED flash units. The device is capable of shooting 1080p videos from the rear camera.

Under the hood, it is powered by a MediaTek Helio G50 SoC, which is an entry-level chipset for budget phones. It is paired with 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. It also has a microSD card slot for additional storage of up to 1TB.

In terms of the battery, the smartphone packs a 5,000mAh cell with a 15W fast charging support. Besides this, the device also comes with added features like an IP54 rating, which makes the phone resistant from dust and water splashes.

The smartphone also has a 3.5mm headphone jack for connecting your wired headphones. It also has a stereo speaker setup with DTS audio. It comes with a Type-C port for charging and data transfer.

The smartphone boots on Android 14 Go Edition OS and HiOS 14 on top. Tecno has confirmed that the device will get two years security updates. As for connectivity, it has 5G, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, and GPS support.

Coming to the price, the Tecno Pop 9 smartphone costs Rs 6,699, however, buyers can get it for Rs 6,499, with Rs 200 bank discount. The device can be purchase from November 26 in the online and offline markets.

While the Tecno Pop 9 appears to be a good entry-level smartphone, you can also consider other alternatives in the same range, like the Redmi A3 and Realme C61 before making a purchase.
