Squid Game gets a Google Doodle: How to play ‘Red Light, Green Light’ online

Ready to risk it all with the deadly doll from Squid Game? The latest Google Doodle brings the heart-pounding tension straight to your browser. In a thrilling collaboration with Netflix, the tech giant has transformed its homepage into the infamous Red Light, Green Light game that had millions holding their breath in the hit Korean series.

As Squid Game’s new season takes the world by storm, Google is giving fans a chance to test their nerves – minus the lethal consequences, of course. Curious to see if you’d survive the first round? Well, let’s find out.

Ready to play Red Light, Green Light?

To play the game, you need to type ‘Squid Game’ or ‘Red Light, Green Light’ on Google Search. A card resembling the symbols from Squid Game will appear on the screen. When you tap it, it takes you to the Red Light, Green Light challenge as showcased in the show.

In the game, you are required to advance a line of six sweat-suit contestants to the finish line without getting caught by the animated girl doll, Young Hee. You need to make sure the players advance when Young Hee is not looking. You can use the blue circle to advance and the red cross to stop. If she catches one of the players, the player will walk out and quickly dissolve away instead of the morbid consequences that they face in the show.

If any of the players make it over the finish line without being eliminated, users will get rewarded with a shower of confetti. But, if no one makes it to the finish line, you can always start over.

The game is available globally and works on laptops, desktops, and on the web browser of your smartphones.

But wait! Netflix has also unleashed its own multiplayer battleground with ‘Squid Game: Unleashed’ – and here’s the kicker: you don’t need a Netflix subscription to join the mayhem.

Meanwhile, franchise mastermind Hwang Dong-hyuk just dropped a bombshell: the series will bow out with an epic final season in 2025. That’s right – one last chance to witness the games that took the world by storm. With the second season available on Netflix, the countdown to the ultimate season has begun!
