Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds blend head-tracking with flagship-grade ANC

If you’re an audiophile, you have to live under a pretty big rock to not be aware of Sony’s XM-series headphones and earphones, considered by many to be the gold-standard in ANC (Active Noise Cancellation). The brand’s recent addition to the series was the WH-1000XM5 headphones, but now the brand has added its equivalent in the TWS space with the new Sony WF-1000XM5 TWS earbuds.

The new WF-1000XM5 comes with improvements in key areas, a new processor as well as support for 360 Reality Audio. Here’s everything you need to know about the new earbuds, and why you should consider them if you’re looking for a new pair of premium ANC earbuds.

Sony WF-1000XM5 top features and specifications

The Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds come with triple microphones on each earbud, which allows the buds to better understand ambient noise and hence, cancel it out digitally. Sony also claims the new XM5 earbuds are better at cancelling out low-frequency sounds.

The earbuds are powered by a new V2 processor and a dedicated QN2e HD noise-cancelling chip, which combine to deliver high-quality sound and noise cancellation. The dedicated chip allows earbuds to leverage AI to counter elements like wind-noise effectively in real-time.

Coming to sound quality, the Sony WF-1000XM5 supports high-resolution audio playback via the LDAC codec and also supports DSEE Extreme to enhance the sound quality of standard-quality digital music. Note that you will need a device that supports the LDAC codec to make the most of this feature.

A new 360 Reality Audio feature uses head-tracking to make your music experience sound more realistic, by adjusting the sound based on your head’s movements. The XM5 earbuds also come with an IPX4 rating and are smaller and lighter than its predecessor, the WF-1000XM4. They also feature 8-hour battery life, and the charging case also supports Qi-wireless charging.

Sony WF-1000XM5 price in India and availability

The Sony WF-1000XM5 TWS earbuds are priced at Rs 24,990 in India, and will be available at major retailers across the country. The earbuds are available in two colours – Black and Platinum Silver and are up for pre-order till October 15.
