Back in September, Sony announced the Sony PlayStation 5 Pro, shedding light on its key features. Now, the console can be purchased in select markets, including the US. The console comes with some perks over the vanilla PlayStation 5, offering better graphical performance and improved ray tracing capabilities.
However, if you were thinking of getting your hands on one in India, you may have to wait a little longer. Let’s dive deeper into why, but first, a quick recap of what’s new with the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Sony PS5 Pro: What's new?
The all-new PlayStation 5 Pro comes nearly four years after the original PS5 and less than a year after the release of PS5 Slim. It has a faster GPU and comes with features like PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) and advanced ray tracing support.

The console packs the same processor as the Slim, which is an AMD Zen 2 8-core and 16-thread chip. It, however, employs an improved GPU, and sports more than double the storage of the original PS5 at 2TB.
The console also comes with advanced ray tracing options to make in-game worlds look more immersive. With PSSR, AI-generated details in frames improve the image quality drastically. Further, the console offers support up to 4K gaming at 120Hz, along with 8K resolutions on compatible TVs.
It’s worth noting that the PS5 Pro is an all-digital console, which means there’s no disc edition. However, Sony does offer a PlayStation disc drive separately if you plan to build a PS5 disc collection.
The PS5 Pro is priced at $699.99 (about Rs 59,000), and it can be purchased on the PlayStation website and through Sony-authorised stores in select regions.
Sony PlayStation 5 Pro launch in India: Why it might take a while
The Sony PlayStation 5 Pro comes with an upgrade to Wi-Fi 7, the latest (and fastest) Wi-Fi certification out there right now. As per a Business Today report, the certification is yet to go official in many regions including India. Until that happens, Sony will not be able to introduce the PS5 Pro in India.
If you want to get into the nitty gritty, this is because the Wi-Fi 7 certification accesses a new 6GHz frequency band, unlike other older Wi-Fi versions which stick to the 5GHz and 2.4GHz bands.

Many of the new perks of the Pro PlayStation including the better graphics (which mean more data that needs to be transferred in real-time) rely on this certification and the speeds it brings, especially for online multiplayer gaming.
While this setback is likely to be temporary in nature, it will put a frown on Indian gamers looking to get themselves a shiny new PlayStation 5 Pro ahead of the GTA 6 release. The good news? GTA 6 launch is still about a year away, and that should give Sony plenty of time to launch the PS5 Pro here after the certification goes through.
You can still get the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim
For those of you who aren’t exactly banking on the largely graphical enhancements of the PlayStation 5 Pro, the standard PlayStation 5 or the PlayStation 5 Slim offers a pretty similar gaming experience for a significantly lower price.
You get the same game library, and the same DualSense Controllers too! Not to mention, the Sony PlayStation 5 Slim will also support GTA 6 when it launches.
Other than the console, Sony also released over 50 enhanced games that support all the PS5 Pro’s added features like advanced ray tracing, among others. These games include new and popular titles like Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, and others.
Notably, Sony also announced the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Limited Edition Bundle globally, which costs $999.99 (about Rs 84,300). In India, Sony launched the PS5 30th Anniversary Limited Edition priced at RS 49,999. It will be available for purchase from November 21.
