Sony announced the PS5 Slim as a less beefy successor to the PS5 last year. However, the announcement was restricted to select countries and India, was not one of them. Now however, the console has finally arrived in India.
Starting Friday, April 5, Sony’s latest gaming console will be available in two variants – PS5 Slim Digital and PS5 Slim Disc. As the names suggest, the former only supports downloaded games, while the latter supports both downloaded and disc games.
Sony PS5 Slim vs Sony PS5: What’s different?
The new Sony PlayStation 5 Slim is not very different from the original PS5. In fact, it offers the same internal hardware, except for slightly more storage – 1TB instead of the usual 825GB.

The main difference between the two consoles is actually the design. With a smaller, more compact form factor, the Sony PS5 Slim occupies a 30 per cent smaller footprint compared to the 2020 PS5. Sony also claims that the PS5 Slim is 25 per cent lighter in weight in comparison.
This means the new console will be easier to pick up and relocate (or accidentally topple) while also being a little easier to fit next to your TV.
An interesting addition on the Sony PS5 Slim is the ability to buy the disc add-on separately and convert a Digital Edition into a Disc Edition console post-purchase. However, the accessory has not been announced in India just yet.
Sony PS5 Slim: Pricing
The Sony PS5 Slim Digital Edition is priced at Rs 44,990, and the Sony PS5 Slim Disc Edition is priced at Rs 54,990. It will be available from April 5 with leading retailers across the country.

Meanwhile, the Sony PlayStation 5 is also still available to purchase in India. But if you already have it, the new Slim doesn’t warrant for an upgrade just yet.
