A great photograph demands great skill, and it goes without saying, great equipment. We’re talking about cameras, of course. Now, while there are many kinds to choose from, some of the most preferred models today happen to be full-frame cameras. Sony has just introduced its latest additions to its Alpha 7C series of cameras – the compact, full-frame Sony Alpha 7CR and 7C II cameras.
Sony Alpha 7CR features and key specifications
The Sony Alpha 7CR sports a full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor that’s back-illuminated. The effective image resolution on the camera stands at 61MP, coupled with the BIONZ XR image processing engine.
The ISO sensitivity on the device ranges between 100 and 32,000 for both still images and movies. However, this can be reduced as well as increased, to as much as 50 and 102,400 respectively, in the case of still images.
The Sony Alpha 7CR, as per Sony, is about 29 per cent lighter and 53 per cent more compact than the Alpha 7R IV.
Sony Alpha 7C II features and key specifications
The Sony Alpha 7C II features a full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor, which is back-illuminated as well. It has an effective image resolution of 33MP, when combined with the BIONZ XR image processor.

The camera has an ISO range of 100 and 51,200 for images and videos. It can, however, be extended to up to 204,800 for still images. This enables pictures free of any noise or grains. Moreover, it also supports 4K video shooting, at up to 60fps. The Alpha 7C II, Sony says, is 22 per cent lighter and 45 per cent more compact than the Alpha 7R V camera.
This, however, is where the differences between the two models end.
Both the Sony Alpha 7CR and the 7C II feature an image-sensor shift mechanism with a five-axis compensation. Both devices also support multiple lenses and are equipped with a 1 cm XGA OLED viewfinder as well as a 7.5 cm TFT LCD screen with touchscreen support. The Sony Alpha 7CR and the 7C II also feature Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity, a 3.5mm jack, an in-built microphone, as well as USB Type-C charging.
They have a similar weight too, with the Sony Alpha 7CR weighing in at 515 grams, while the 7C II weighs 514 grams.
Sony Alpha 7C II and Alpha 7CR pricing and availability
The Sony Alpha 7C II is available in black and silver colours, and is priced at Rs 2,14,990, which includes only the body. It costs 2,43,990, should one choose to buy it with the 28-60mm zoom lens. The pricing of the Alpha 7CR remains under wraps as of now.
