Google Assistant has been around for the better part of a decade now. It has been an extremely handy tool, whether to draw up grocery lists, keep track of flight schedules, or set reminders to pick up a present for your significant other’s birthdays.
However, the Gemini era is here. And Google’s new AI-powered platform gets capabilities far superior when it comes to text and image generation, conversations with users, and scouring the web for information as well. One crucial bit that seemed missing is the ability to schedule tasks and execute them on a recurring basis. Well, that may be all set to change, with live prompts on Gemini.
Live prompts on Gemini: What you need to know
Leaker AssembleDebug and Android Authority recently reported that they came across a “Live Prompts” setting on the Gemini Android app. While Google itself has not confirmed the functionality of the setting, rumour has it that it could give Gemini the ability to execute certain specific tasks at specific times, without requiring any human intervention.

These could include anything from summarising news stories to providing you an early morning updates on stock markets. What’s more, they also found an additional string that reads “List of live prompts,” which suggests that users may be able to create multiple automated actions and reminders, to be executed at set times.
Could Gemini replace Google Assistant completely?
This new feature addresses one major drawback of Gemini over Google Assistant. And therefore, it may perhaps not be long before Gemini completely replaces Google Assistant on Android devices.
Gemini was also very recently made available on the Android Google app. This, in essence, allows for a user to toggle between Gemini and Google search for their queries, as per their preferences.

Bearing in mind how Gemini is now seeing system-wide integration on Android smartphones along with the Google suite of apps, the Mountain View-based tech company seems to have big plans for its AI assistant, looking to take on rivals such as Microsoft’s Copilot, as well as Apple’s AI platform, internally called Ajax GPT.
