Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2024 took the wraps off its two most anticipated smartphones: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6. However, this wasn’t the only announcement the brand made as it went on to announce its very first smart ring — the Samsung Galaxy Ring — as well as an all-new Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Watch series.
This time around, Samsung has upgraded the Galaxy Watch7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra with improved accuracy and health monitoring features. If that’s not all, the brand also announced new BioActive sensors, which will allow deeper lifestyle insights for users. If you missed catching the launch live; here’s everything you need to know:
Samsung Galaxy Watch7, Galaxy Watch Ultra: What's new?
Samsung Galaxy Watch7 come with 40mm, 44mm dial sizes, whereas the Galaxy Watch Ultra gets a 47mm large dial size. Samsung has done away with the Classic variant this time and has not included rotating bezels for its wearable devices.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra rivals the Apple Watch Ultra variant and bears similarities with its appearance and ruggedness. It has a more rectangular ‘cushion design’ facade, three buttons on the right-hand side and a Super AMOLED display. Samsung has also provided it with a 3,000nits peak brightness for outdoor use and a scratch-resistant crystal sapphire top for both the smartwatches.
The Galaxy Watch7, on the other hand, features Samsung’s iconic circular dial and also comes with a Super AMOLED always-on display. Both smartwatches, however, share the Exynos W1000 5-core chipset and the new BioActive sensor.

With a spotlight on health and fitness, Samsung has equipped the Galaxy Watch series with AI-enhanced tracking algorithms. The smartwatches come with a sleep apnea tracking tool that can potentially help detect the condition in a user. Apart from that, the brand has also included an IHRN
(Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification) for a detailed understanding of heart health.
For the first time, Samsung has added advanced glycation tracking features for users to access right from their wrists. According to the company, it harnesses the BioActive sensors to alert a user of their biological age and their metabolic health. This reading is based on their overall lifestyle and dietary habits.

Apart from advanced health tracking metrics, the Galaxy Watch Ultra promises ‘extreme’ durability with its Titanium Grade 4 Frame and 10ATM water resistance. Samsung mentions how the smartwatch can also operate at a wider range of altitudes, from 500 meters below sea level to 9,000 meters high.
Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra has a battery capacity of 590mAh, which gives the watch the ‘longest battery life’ in the Galaxy Watch lineup so far. The Galaxy Watch7, on the other hand, gets 4,25mAh battery capacity.
