Samsung’s adorable AI sidekick ‘Ballie’ could roll into your home this year

CES 2025 commences today, and with it, comes in a host of cool tech from all the brands we love. With concepts turning into reality, several gadgets today have found their roots in the annual consumer electronics trade show.

This year, among its other notable announcements, Samsung also stated that Ballie, its AI-powered personal home assistant robot, could finally ‘roll’ its way into our homes. After half a decade’s worth of waiting, the adorable robot sidekick made its comeback at CES 2025 with new features and a futuristic exterior. Here’s everything you need to know:

What is Samsung's Ballie robot, and what can it do?

Imagine a personalised companion that will not only understand you, but also your family as well as pets. Samsung’s Ballie is a small, yellow ball-shaped robot with a camera, bearing a striking resemblance to Pixar’s famous Wall-E. Compared to the previously introduced spherical design, the company mentions how the updated Ballie can now do a lot more with its three-wheeled mobile design.

For one, it comes equipped with a full HD triple-laser projector and motion sensors to move around in your house, without dashing into people’s feet or objects. Ballie also gets a monocular facade, which gives it its inquisitive ‘face’, and can also project images on your walls, ceilings or floors. This means you can stream your favourite movies or TV shows using Ballie and it can also auto-adjust the screen size depending on the distance from the wall.

Additionally, Samsung also states how Ballie can work as a home security camera. It gets LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), which can measure the distance between two objects. Apart from that, Ballie comes with a Time of Flight (ToF) camera sensor to perform all its tasks and map the house for a breach in security.

While the back camera comes with a 2K resolution video, the front camera gets 4K resolution streaming. According to Samsung, Ballie can now move along with the homeowners to assist them in real-time and even patrol the house to ensure safety with time-to-time updates.

If that’s not all, Ballie can be a companion for times you need help adjusting your AC temperature or switching on your smart geyser and it can even make your grocery lists for you! It currently supports three languages — English, Korean and Spanish — and it can be activated using the wake word ‘Hey Ballie’.

Who can purchase Samsung's Ballie robot?

For now, Samsung has only mentioned how Ballie will foray into the smart home segment sometime in 2025. Other colours as well as pricing details remain unknown as of today. It is also not known if the AI-powered personal home assistant will be made available to the Indian audience.
